Expressive Abstract photography

Presentation by

Grace Vogler

My Artist Statement

A saying I live by is “Be unique. You’re the only you there is”. Photography helps me truly embody this idea. Struggling with anxiety and depression, I sometimes find it hard to let out emotions. Art, photography specifically, is an avenue for me to convey my thoughts and helps me sort out emotions when I am most stressed. My art has always been a bit abstract… a bit outside the box. I love to create abstract photography because it allows me to get up close and explore the beauty and uniqueness of objects that you never really see from far away. I was inspired by artists such as Paul Strand and Alfred Stieglitz in my photography, as in several of their works, you can see pictures of everyday scenes or objects, made to appear extraordinary. They saw the allure of the normal, and could make a puddle look like an oasis. I want to capture pictures of a single snowflake in an avalanche of beauty, and demonstrate emotion through the most unusual subjects.

VisUAL JOURNALING

Image Focus

This image is focused specifically on lines and shapes. The swooping lines of the chain create movement from the front to the back of the photo, and the contrast throughout the photo creates a dramatic and darker tone.

Conclusion

As said by the inspirational photographer

PAUL STRAND:

"The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where he lives or a few feet away. It is always on his doorstep"

Conclusion

I'll end with an encouragement: to Find the beauty in everyday life and to live in a limitless world.
