Main Important Facts
- The Plateau Natives' diet consisted of only berries such as blackberries, huckleberries, and wild strawberries.
- The women were responsible for gathering these types of berries.
- Salmon were the main fish that was keeping the Plateau Indians alive.
- The only tool they used was called a Ulna Knife in which was made of bone.
- Bones' points from big animals were used as fishing spears, arrows, and especially tactical gear.

- Even though the Plateau Natives made tipis, they also made other shelters such as Wooden Lodges, Tule Mats on long sticks, and Straw Huts.

Important people thrived in the Plateau era. For example, Chief Joseph. Chief Joseph (1840-1904) was a leader of the Wallowa band of the Nez Perce Tribe. He became famous in 1877 for leading his people on an amazing journey across the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

How Did the Plateau Natives Live
- They lived off of rivers for fishing and plains for hide and food; mostly bison and antelope. They’re housing techniques were to get long sticks, and stack they together. Then, they would wrap the sticks around with animal hide. This type of house was called a tipi. If they couldn't build a tipi, they would most likely build a wooden lodge.
