Introduction

  • The wood in Treegap is owned by the Fosters.
  • A stranger appears at the Foster's gate.
  • The Foster's had a ten year-old daughter named Winifred.
  • Winnie tells a toad that she wants to run away
  • Mae Tuck sees her two boys every ten years

Rising Action

  • Winnie runs away from home and finds Jesse Tuck drinking from a spring in the Wood
  • Jesse won't let Winnie drink from the spring
  • Jesse and his family kidnap Winnie
  • The Tucks tell Winnie that the spring gave them eternal life
  • The stranger overhears the story
  • The Tucks bring Winnie home while the stranger tells the Fosters he knows where their daughter is
  • The stranger gets the constable, then goes ahead of him to the Tucks'
  • Mae Tuck murders the stranger to protect Winnie
  • The constable returns Winnie home and locks Mae up in Jail

Climax

  • Jesse gives Winnie a bottle of spring water to drink when she turns 17

  • In the middle of the night, Miles removes the window, Mae escapes the jailhouse, and Winnie takes her place for the night to let the Tucks get away

  • Mae and Tuck see Winnie's toad sitting in the middle of the road
