The rare Convergent Alaskan Earthquake

Selin Fiat

They are 3 differnt

plate boundarries

Convergent Plate Boundarry

.A convergent plate boundary is when two tectonic plates move toward one another or collide.

.A convergent plate boundary makes mountains, volcanic mountains and volcanic islands.

Convergent plate boundarry

Divergent Plate boundarry

Divergent plate boundary is when two plates divide or separate .

A divergent plate boundary creates mid ocean ridges and rift valleys.

Divergent plate

Transform plate boundarry

Transform plate boundary is when two tectonic plates slide past each other.

.A transform plate boundary is most likely to make earthquakes

Convection curents

These plates move due to convection currents in the mantle , the heat from the core makes magma in the mantle rise towards the crust. As the hot current nears the crust, it begins to cool and sink back towards the core. As the magma sinks, it drags the plates across the surface of the Earth.

The 1964 Alaskan earthquake

The 1964 Alaskan earthquake was caused by a convergent plate because Alaska is located on the pacific plate , therefore when the Pacific Plate lurched northward underneath the North American Plate it caused an earthquake ,it was realy rare for a convergent plate to cause an eartquacke when is most like le to be a transform plate . The earthquake caused a catastrophe in the city making giant cracks in the roads making it split in half.
