Non-Contact Forces

The following forces named are non-contact forces

Non- Contact

Gravitational Force

Gravity

The gravitational force of Earth is the only thing keeping us from drifting away, deep into space. Every and any mass has a gravitational force, for example; an apple will fall down to the ground because the apple has it's own gravitational force, which is drawn to the Earths gravitational force.

Sir Isaac Newton

Sir Isaac Newton is a well known and renowned scientist. He was praised for his studies of light, motion, his contribution to calculus and his most known, discovery of gravity

Electrostatic Force

E.Force

Electrostatic force is a very crucial component in many aspects of our lives. From the energy it exihbits -and stores- we can use it to a wide extent.

An electrostatic field is a field of electricity that is immutable, for example, a microwave utilises electrostatic fields to heat up the item inside

Hans Christian Oersted

Hans Christian Orsted, who I will refer to as Oersted, was the first person to discover electrostatic fields. He believed -and proved- that electro' and magnetic fields were not distinctive, but shared many characteristics

First Discovery

Magnetic Force

M.Force

A magnetic force is a force that either attracts or repels an object. Some objects are more affected than others, like metals. Magnetic force has two types -north and south poles. Depending on the objects polarity, it will either be attracted or repelled, the rule being- opposite polarity attract and like polarity repel.

Hans Christian Oersted

Hans Christian Orsted was the first person to discover magnetic fields. He theorised -and documented- that magnetic fields shared many characteristics with electrostatic fields, which many scientists believed otherwise

First Discovery

Contact Forces

The following forces mentioned are contact forces

Contact

Friction

Whenever two objects rub against each other, they cause friction. Friction works against the motion and acts in the opposite direction. The amount of friction depends on the materials from which the two surfaces are made. The rougher the surface, the more friction is produced.

polymath

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci was the proclaimed first to discover friction. He is a well known person, hailing from Vinci, Italy. He painted extremely famous paintings, including the Mona Lisa, and his notes -London scientists discover- were much ahead of his time, recording the laws of friction. These notes were from a little over 500 years ago, in 1493.

First Discovery

Tension

Tension

Tension force is the force applied to a cable or wire that is anchored on opposite ends to opposing walls or other objects. This causes a force that pulls equally, or in favour of one side, in both directions.

The tension forces the structure endure an amount of stress which may cause other materials to break

Agnes Luise Wilhelmine Pockels

Agnes Pockels was a german chemist who 'Discovered the influence of impurities on a surface tension'

First Discovery

Reaction Force

A reaction force is a force that acts in the opposite direction to an action force. Friction is the reaction force resulting from surface interaction.Reaction forces and reaction moment are usually the result of the actions of applied forces.

Reaction

Isaac Newton

Reaction force is one of the three laws of Isaac Newtion, another well renowned scientist throughout history.

First Discovery

Air Resistance

There are more or less two main things that affect air resistance- the speed of the object, and the cross-sectional area of the object. The faster an object is going, the more air resistance there will be. It's the same for a large cross-sectional area; an increased area leads to an increased amount of air resistance.

Air

Galileo Galilei

Air resistance was discovered by the really famous Italian scientist Galileo Galilei. A lot of people refer to him as the father of modern physics because of all of his discoveries. It's said that in around 1590, he went to the top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa where he dropped lots of different objects.
