* Matthew Dobson confirmed the sweet taste of urine was due excesss of a sugar in the urine and blood of people with diabetes.

* The first biosynthetic human insulin, Humulin, which is identical in chemical structure to human insulin. It was approved to market in several countries.

* 37.3 million people have diabetes.

*It is expected to rise significantly in the coming years.

* Joseph von Mering and Oskar Minkowski discovered the role of the pancreas in diabetes

* Thomas Willis added the word mellitus to the word diabetes.

*Sir Frederick Grant Banting and Charles Herbert Best purified the hormone insulin from pancreases of cows.
