The Monroe Doctrine was issued that prevented any foreign power to interfere with expansion on the western hemisphere.

Battle of the Alamo occurred between the Texans and the mexicans in 1836 in a fort in San Antonio.

The Mexicans won slaughtering all of the Texan solders inside. This is where the phrase "Remember the Alamo" originates.

the gold rush caused a boom in California by the 49'ers which coined the term "Manifest Destiny"

the Gadsden purchase

the Gadsden purchase in 1853 was a purchase that gained America new Mexico, Arizona, and a bit of Mexico.

1860's

The American Civil War lasts from 1861 to 1865 and incurred 620,000 casualties. Which resulted the abolition of slavery nation wide.

1870's

In the 70's Anti-monopolists wanted a republican economy because it would create independent citizens. The only issue was getting the market to that point. A majority in 1870 wanted the government to step in and restore competition between business while others felt that large corporations were inevitable for tighter regulation.

1880's

in the 80's and early 90's immigration boomed leading to exclusion acts against some groups. Some immigrants that could pass as white joined the american protective agency with a goal of restricting catholic immigration.

1890's

America emerged as a national power deepening its say and influence in international affairs.

1900's

America was just starting to emerge as a world power leading to decreased cost in raw materials and more wealth which resulted in economic growth.

1910's

Passed in 1919 and ratified in 1920 Women finally got the right to vote.

due to the victory of WW1, America was finally a world power, and soldiers returning home brought with them labor and skill. Their sudden increase of American population caused the economy to grow 42% larger.

1930s and 1940s

during the 1930's and 1940's the great depression and the start of ww2 kicked off. This was very bad for the american economy due to the crash of the stock market.
