NANN cosponsors three conferences during the year, collectively referred to as "The National Conferences of Neonatal Nurses," which in future years becomes NANN's Annual Educational Conference.

The premier edition of the NANNewsletter is published.

Central Lines, NANN's quarterly member print publication, now called NANN Central, debuts.

1990s

1997

NANN.org goes live, providing around-the-clock access to resources and information.

1999

NANN relocates its national offices to Chicago and celebrates its 15th anniversary.

2000

NANN celebrates the first Neonatal Nurses Day, established by the New Jersey chapter of NANN.

2007

NANNP, the National Association of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners, is established as a membership division within NANN to organize and represent the professional and scholarly concerns of NNPs within NANN.

The newly formed Health Policy and Advocacy Committee develops NANN's first advocacy agenda.

  • Associates degree which is obtained in 2-3 years
  • Diploma degree can be obtained through a hospital-based school of nursing.
  • Baccalaureate degree (BSN), which provides the more career flexibility and is obtained in about 4 years through college.
  • If you have a degree in another field, you may be eligible for an accelerated program where you can obtain a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) or master of science in nursing (MSN) in 1-2 years.

Upon graduating as a registered nurse, you will want to work in a hospital with a NICU.

  • NICU’s may require prior experience in infant care. The prior experience can be pediatrics, labor and delivery, or in a well/low-risk newborn nursey. Other NICU’s will hire new graduates who are passionate about working in neonatal intensive care and utilized orientation programs. The orientation programs teach nurses how to properly tend to sick infants.
