Okapi johnstoni

Okapia

The okapi is an endangered animal belonging to the giraffidea family, one of 2 (visually) distinct species, the okapi and giraffe. It has a dark brown coat with zebra-like hind stipes, and a stereotypically giraffe-like facial structure.

Giraffina

Giraffina is the subfamily of all living giraffes, and a few extinct species as well.

Giraffina

I only included 15 species with their own slide, I would be happy to give more infomation if asked.

Giraffa giraffa

Has 2 subtypes

Giraffa giraffa

Giraffa angolensis

Commonly called the South African giraffe, not recognized as a seperate species.

Giraffa angolensis

Giraffa tippleskirchii

Has 2 subtypes

Giraffa thornicrofti

Giraffa tippleskirchii

Also regarded as the 'South African Giraffe'.

Giraffa tippleskirchii

Giraffa reticulata

G. reticulata is one of the most common giraffe species found in zoos, with Rothschild's giraffe. It is native to the Horn of Africa, and is occasionally called the Somali Giraffe.

Giraffa camelopardalis

G. camelopardalis are also called 'Northern Giraffes' and 'Three-Horned Giraffes' due to their habitat and facial structure.

Giraffa camelopardalis peralta

G. c. peralta

G. c. peralta is also known as the 'West African Giraffe'.

All captives are now reclassified as G. c. antiquorum, but there remain a few individual herds in West Africa.

Giraffa camelopardis antiquorum

G. c. antiquorum

G. c. antiquorum is also known as the 'Kordofan giraffe', and a subspecies of G. camelopardis. It was recently discovered that all of the thought to be 'West African Giraffes' in captivity were actually 'Kordofan giraffes'.

Giraffa camelopardis rothschildi

G. c. rothschildi

G. c. rothschildi is one of the most captive individual giraffe species with one of the worst populations. It is critically endangered. It is also known as the 'Rothschild's Giraffe' 'Ugandan Giraffe' and 'Baringo Giraffe'.

Giraffa camelopardalis

G. camelopardalis is the umbrella species for many of the 'G. c.' giraffids. It is commonly called the Northern Giraffe, and has 3 ossicones.

G. camelopardalis

Giraffa camelopardalis camelopardalis

G. c. camelopardalis

G. c. camelopardalis is a specification of G. camelopardalis, and is regarded as the actual species, rather than the umbrella.

Giraffa jumea (extinct)

G. jumea was a giraffid species found from Chad to Malawi.

Giraffa priscilla (extinct)

G. priscilla is a giraffid that was found on the Indian subcontinent, with new discovery of fossils in Pakistan.

Giraffa punjabiensis (extinct)

G. punjabiensis was a giraffid species native to the Pakistani area. It is also recognized as the Giraffokeryx punjabiensis.

Giraffa pygmaea (extinct)

G. pygmaea is the extinct giraffid species native to Africa, during the Pliocene era.

Giraffa sivalensis (extinct)

An extinct giraffid species that was native to Asia during the Pliocene era.

Many intact fossils have been found, causing the drive to recreate it become great.

Giraffa stillei (extinct)

G. stillei was a giraffid species native to Africa during the Pliocene era.

Injanatherium (extinct)

Injanatherium

The two giraffids in this subfamily are extinct, native to the Middle East. The distinguishable feature most commonly atributed to the subfamily is their two, ear-like ossicones.

I. hazimi

I. hazimi's distinguishing feature, when it comes to the Injanatherium subfamily, is its larger ossicones.

I. hazimi

I. arabicum

I. arabicum has the distinguishing feature of smaller, more trilaterally shaped.

I. arabicum

Propalaeomeryx (extinct)

Propalaeomeryx is an extinct genus of giraffe.

Propalaemeryx

Shansitherium (extinct)

Shansitherium

Includes 3 subspecies

S. fuguenesis

S. tafeli
