The issue is poverty. Poverty is defined as a lack of resources to meet basic needs such as food, clean water, shelter, and clothing. However, in today's world, that can include access to health care, education, and even transportation.
Poverty is happening in all countries but the one we will be focusing on is poverty in Madagascar as it has the highest rate of poverty in the world.
In Madagascar, more than two out of every three children (67.6 percent) are multidimensional poor, with material deprivation in two or more different welfare dimensions. 23.7 percent of children live in extreme poverty.
More than 80% of those under 18 in Madagascar live in extreme poverty.
According to the World Bank, 75% of Madagascar's population is estimated to be living on less than $1.90 per day in 2019
this country has one of the highest poverty rates in the world. In the United States, 1.2 percent of people lived on $1.90 or less per day in 2016.
after controlling for geographical and physical characteristics, communes with higher rates of adoption of improved agricultural technologies and, as a result, higher crop yields have lower food prices, higher real wages for unskilled workers, and higher welfare indicators.
1.Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. Nearly 78% of the population lives below the poverty line of US$1.90 per day. In Canada you could not do anything with around $2, it is really tough to live with $2 a day.
2.Due to them not getting the vaccinations they need and since they have poor sanitation and hygiene, Madagascar is regularly hit by epidemics.
3.80% of the people under 18 years of age have an extreme poverty rate.
4.Extreme poverty pushes children in Madagascar into child labor, and there has been many problem with that around the world. It affects the kids a lot in their life
.In 1960 the life expectancy rate was 39.96 years old, but then later in 2016 it was put to 65.93 years. It had an improvement but the county is so poor that the people there have a really rough time to live and likely die early in life.
1.Madagascars unemployment rate in 2019 was 1.76%. That means alot of people there are employed
2.Around 56% of Madagascar's water is not safe to drink. That is more than the water they have there. So that means that around 44% of the water is not safe to drink or to wash yourself.
3.The birth rate in madagascar in the year 2020 was 32.259 per every 1000 people, the rate lowered from 2019 by 0.86%.
4.The death rate in madagascar in 2020 was 5.8 per every 1000 people, that is an improvement since 1950 had 20.3 every 1000 people.
Water Aid made a fresh water system instead of using water that has bacteria in it.
Water aid made the kids to focus more on education instead of going to get water.
the people there were very excited and happy
This is probably the bigest organization helping Madagascar
They have 4 different programs: Community Health (this slide), Education infrastructure, livelihoods and conservation
They helped nearly 2000 mum’s with life saving information of how to keep their kids safe and healthy
They changed the government education system to include awareness of sexual health and STI’s
Trained people how to use wells and made over 1200 household latrines in Fort Dauphin
Used rain water and made it clean drinking water
Have repaired over 100 schools and classrooms in dire need
Provided tables and benches so they wont have to sit on the floor
Now they learn in a water proof building with drinking water, toilets, and benches to sit on
Live off of land scraping through agriculture and fishing
Now are working with 3 fishing communities
Have 45 beekeepers that sell honey nationally
Women make a living off of embroidery
Help the forests and animals
Give kids information of environmental education
Have people around the world come and help for 2 weeks or 2 years
They help the ocean wildlife
Help other people with fish stocks
And they make sure everything is healthy
The plan of action is to help them get fresh supply of water and food so they wont starve. Also since there is a lack of good clothes we would like to provide them with good clothes seasonally so they don't have to wear the same clothes over and over again Another thing is that they get proper education and have good places to sit and study
