Camera Movement

Camera Movement is the way the camera is used to show a scence and how it is playing out in the film.

A ZOOM IN/OUT SHOT

A zoom shot is used to show the charecter and his/her's surroundings.

A PANNING SHOT

A panning shot is used to show a moving object and its enviroment around it. A panning shot follows the object to where its going.

A TRACKING SHOT

TRACKING

A tracking shot is used to immerse the audience in the movie/tv show they are watching.this allows them to feel the same experiance as the charecter. for example in this shot->

The camera tracks up the stairs making us (the audience) feel like we too are walking up the stairs giving us the illusion that we are in the film too.

A TILTING SHOT

TILTING

A tilting shot is used for establishing shots to show the charecter and ts surroundngs. its usually used to show the setting of the scene if the set is quite large/tall. A tilting shot is also used to compare the size of the set to the charecter. Another use for a tilting shot is to introuduce a charceter in a dramatic fashion.

Visual Techniques are used in film to help tell the story, help the actor/actress feel like the charecter and help set the mood of the movie or scene

Props are a super important part of film making. They help to tell the story and can also help the actor feel more like the part they are playing

Colour

In film Colour can do incredible things like create an amiance, highten symbolisim and amplify your emotions when watching the film. It is defiantley a very important part in the process of making a film.

LIGHTING

Lighting

Lighting in films is super important. It creates a visual mood for the audience. It also creates an atomshpere and a sense of meaning for the people watching the film.

Sound techniuqes are used to make the audience feel something.

SILENCE

Silence

When the scence you are wacthing suddely goes silent it creates a sense of unknowing and can even cause the audience to feel fear. It makes the scene feel eery and like something bad is about to happen.

MUSIC

Music

Music is out into films to make the audience feel something. Depending on the style of the movie and what is happening in the scene music can make you feel sad,angry,exited,scared literally anything.

VOICE OVERS

Voice over

Voice overs in Tv/Film are a great way to get inside a charecters head and really understand a charecters emotions and their point of view about things. voice overs can also help to portray the story line.

SOUND EFFECTS

Sound effects in movies are used to deliver infromation to the audience and to help create emotion in the scene.

SFX (SPECIAL EFFECTS)

SFX (special effects) are visual tricks used in movies to make something impossible or not real come to life on screen in a live action shot.

PACING

Pacing is the speed that the clips are put at. The speed of clips can change the way we feel during the moment. For example a slower pace is more relaxing and thoughtful than a fast paced scence.

Visual techiques are used to help the audience understand what is happening in the scence. They also help the actors in the film to really get into charecter.

MISE-EN-SCENE

Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scene is everything that is on the set or infront of the camera that contributes to the overall look of the production. When translated from french it means placing on stage.

Camera angles are used to make the charecter seem, scared,small, confisent, powerful etc

A low angle shot is used to make a charecter seem big and powerful. It makes the charecter look confident and like they could face anything.

DIALOUGE

Dialouge

Dialouge is what the actor/actress says in a scene. These words help us understand what is happening and how each charecter feels.

DIGETIC SOUND

Digetic sound is the sound that comes from inside the film. An example of this is a charecter walking and being able to hear the footsteps.

Non-Digetic sound

Non-digetic sound is the sound that comes from outside the film. An example of this is if a dramatic part of a scene starts and suddely music starts to add to that. non-digetic sound is sound that the people in the film cant hear but the audience can hear.

CHARECTER ACTIONS

Charecter actions

Charecter actions are the way the charecter acts towards themselfs, others and towards objects. Charecter actions tell us alot about the charecter.

Body language

Body language helps the audience understand the charecter and the plot. Body language is what the actor does with their body while they are delivering lines and while they are reacting to the scene taking place. even slight movement of the actors body can completey change the mood of the scene

Gestures

Gestures are what actors and actresses do with their hands and their body while acting. Gestures help the audience to understand the charecter.

FACIAL EXPRESSIONS

Facial expressions

Facial expressions are what the actors and actresses do with their faces while they act. its not just what they do while they are speaking its also how they react to the scene around them. Facial expressions help the audience to understand what the charecter is feeling in the moment.

COSTUME

Costume

A costume is what a charecter wears. It helps to tell the audience the era, time period and style the charecter has. What a charecter wears says alot about them.

Camera shots are used to portary things about a scene,charecter and setting so the audience understands whats happening in the film

TWO SHOT

Two shot

a two shot is used to show the relationship between two charecters. They are often Mid or lomg shots and are commonly used when a conversation is happening

ESTABLISHING SHOT

Establishing shot

An establishing shot is used to show the environment from far away, this means we can see the whole setting of the scene. Generally establishing shots are used at the beginning of the film or episode.

CLOSE UP

A close up is used to ahow the emotion on the charecters face. this helps the audience connect with the charecter.

EXTREME CLOSE UP

A extreme close up is used to draw the attention of the audience to the subject so they can focus on it.

POV SHOT

Point of view shot

A pov shot is used to show the scene happening from one of the charecters point of views. this means we can see exactly what they are seeing and it makes us feel more connected to the film.

MID SHOT

A mid shot is a shot taken from the waist up and is usually used when a charecter is talking

LONG SHOT

A long shpt show the whole scene and charecters surroundings. If a charecter is in the shot, their whole body is shown.
