Levels ofTazkiayh
Levels of Tazkiyah
Abstention & Repentance
The two levels of tazkiyah that I believe one should be mindful of with regard to gender relations are: Abstention and Repentance.
- Abstention (wara3) Wara3 is defined as holding oneself back from unnecessary things; staying away from what is unlawful and forbidden; or abstaining from all doubtful things so that you don’t commit a forbidden act.
- This relates to gender relations because we should try our best to stay away from haram things with regards to the other gender.
- Repentance(towbah) Begins in the heart that realizes sin is spiritual poison. This induces regret and a yearning to compensate for past shortcomings & determination to avoid them in the future. Towbah means regaining one's essential purity after every spiritual backstep.
- This relates to gender relations because everyone makes mistakes and if they do they should know that there is always a way back to Allah (SWT).
