WHAT:

WHAT:

Women started wearing shorter, low-waisted dresses and revealing styles worn by the Flappers. New trends included 'bobbed' hairstyles, cloche hats. Scarves and stockings contained bold, striking geometric designs of the era. Brightly colored clothes were a staple. Another 1920's fashion trend was looser fitting clothes. Men’s fashion during this time included pinstriped suits, tuxedos, silk shirts, handkerchiefs, raccoon fur coats, fedora hats, suspenders, bow ties, black patent leather shoes, and spats.

WHO:

Both men and women experienced a change in style during this time. Golf stars like Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen inspired the athletic clothing of the 1920’s.

WHO:

WHEN/WHERE:

WHEN/WHERE:

This radical cultural change occurred after World War I. Colors for city folk were mostly black, navy, grey, tan, and olive green. Country folk and seaside dwellers liked color: white, yellow, red, blue, and light grey. The difference between city and country clothing in Europe was far more pronounced than in America.

WHY/HOW:

Women were gaining their independence and freedom so their clothing choices were shifting. Much of men's clothing in the 1920’s took inspiration from what popular athletes were wearing. The Jazz Age gave everyone an edgier take on life, and it was reflected in clothing.
