The plains of Abraham was a battle fought between the French and the British. The British led by James Wolfe. Wolfe landed his ships at L'anse-au-foulon upstrem from the city next to a cliff 53m high. They landed on September 13 1756. A force of infantrymen led by William Howe scaled the cliff and subdued the Guards. By dawn Wolfe and the soldiers were ontop of the cliff. and by morning all the force was assemleb on the plateau. The soldiers were asselmbed and were spread across the entire feild in a horshoe shaped fromation. When Montclam found out about this attack he decided to attack before the british were assembled on the plains.
Montclam had a force of 4,500 men who were less trained than the British who had roughly the same amount of troops. Montclam's men headed to the plains and started firing when they were 120 meteres away from the British but Wolfe's stood still until the French were about 40 meters away from the British line, Then they started shooting volleys and quickly stopped the French advancing. Wolfe died soon after it started he shot three times. Wolfe's last words were "Now, God be praised, I will die in peace."
Louis-Joseph de Montcalm was a French military general during the seven years war.He was born at Candiac, France 28 Febuary 1712. He joined the army at the age of 9. In 1756 he was promoted to marechal de campand took over as commander of troops in North america. He is mainly known for the plains of Abraham but also sucesfully defended a stunning victory at Carillion. The British had 16,000 troops and he only had 3,000 and was the bloodiest bttle in the seven years war. After winning this he was promoted to second highests rank in the French army then died at the Plains of Abraham.
James Wolfe was a British military general in the seven years war best known for the Plains of Abraham. Wolfe was born on January 2 1727 in Westerham, England. Wolfe's first battle in the seven years waar was Amhersts expedition to Louisburg. He played a large role in this battle and was already a senior officer from England which is why he was chosen to attaack Quebec. Before Quebec he attacked Montmorecy which was a bloody failure was ill and was on bad terms with his senior officers. But when he decided to attack Quebec he planed the brilliant assault on the city and won the plains of Abraham. Before the plains of Abraham he recited Elegy written in a country courtyard before and said "Gentlemen I would rather have written that poem than take Quebec tomorrow."
The battle of Plains Of Abraham was caused by the Seven Years war. The Seven Years War happened because the french were expanding to much into the Ohio River. The british suffered many defeats in the beginning of the Seven Years War. This war was also caused to figure who would own the land of New France which later influenced the creating of Canada. The British also wanted to gain more ground.
The consequence of the The Plains Of Abraham was a big loss of army for both sides. The British lost many battles in The Seven Years War. Many of the cities during the battle Of The Plains Of Abrham were destroyed and in ruins so once the battle was over there was not much to come back too. Soon adter the battle the British navy was forced to leave the St. Lawrence River before ice closed the mouth of the river. The British at quebec were therefore isolated over the winter, and many suffered from Scurvy. The French also surrendered many of their colonial possesions.
The Plains of Abraham was significant to the creation of British North america as this battle was fought between the French and the British and the British won. Winning this battle made the British one step closer to the British winning the war. It was significant the battle was very significant to the British because it took out one of France's best military generals Montclam. This was significant to the British because it was a pivotal piont to the British winning.
This battle had a big impact on British north america. This battle as mentioned alot was the key turning point for the war when the British statred taking over. This was key for a lot of British influence in Canada such as trade between the two nations, their allies in war, and Canada and Britian have a strong connection that originated from the British taking over Canada. One of the larger impacts was this led to the surrender of the French because once the British won this they took Quebec city and the French didnt stand much of a chance as British coud get through the St.lawrence now that Quebec city was down, Through the Hudson riever to Montreal.
The French lost their general that day so it was not viewed well after. The French were not prepared for this attack specifically from the lack of defences. This atteack happened very quietly and when it was dark sp the French did not know what was coming for them. The French viewed this as a big loss especially in the Seven Years War because it was a big turning point for the British.
The British viewed this attack as a very good thing for them. The British as I said before had a great turning point during the battle and after that battle. This battle led into the British taking over Quebec and the French surrendering New France too the British.
I believe there would not be a way to view it today because if this happened today many of us would not be here currently because this shaped many things including the making of Canada. If we were here today and the technology we had today was in this battle, then it would be very different because there are different ways to view this battle. This probably would not have even happened today anyways.
Other people such as the First Nations viewed this as a important attack for the British and a horrible thing for the French.
Continuity
and change
The biggest change the Battle of Abraham was part of was the change of tides in the war. This was the battle that led to the surrender of the French to the British. This battle was also a key to winning the war. Without this when the british won the French lost lots of their land along the St.lawerence.
It was one of the strongest positions and the most valuable land so without this there was nothing that could stop the British.
Another key change was the death of Montcalm. Montcalm was one of Frances best military generals he had joined the army at the age of 9 and was the second highest rank in the military during the war. After the battle the british captured Quebec the fench losing one of the most impoertant piece of land along the St.Lawerence. After this battle the British had nothing to stop them from getting Montreal and the rest of New France.
