The Tonkawa's were actually a group of independent bands. 2 of the major bands included in it was the Tonkawa proper and the Mayeyes. Other smaller groups consist of Cava, Cantona, Emet, Sana, Toho, and the Tohaha Indians. Each band has its own chief, in which the band members would elect. One of the chiefs went by the name of El Mocho. He served the role of the tribe leader for a term of 5 years. (1779 until 1784)

After the Washita reservation, they went to Ft. Griffin, TX. Then, they returned to Oklahoma at the Sac and Fox Agency in Oklahoma. Then, the went to the oakland agency in Oklahoma.
The Tonkawa tribe had very simple shelters, tipis made with poles and bison hide, and brush shelters, made from sticks and other types of wood, straw thatch and sometimes covered with a bison hide. The Tonkawa tribe traveled a lot. Tipis were designed to be made fast and broken down fast.
The Tonkawas mainly ate buffalo for food. The Tonkawas also relied on small things like rabbits, rattle snakes and even skunks. They also gathered berries, fruit and nuts.

The Tonkawas wore clothing made from buffalo skin. The men wore their hair long and parted in the middle. The women would wear their hair either long or short. Men and women painted their bodies too.
There is a scout dance they do when people undertake a raid.
People also used to traditionally wear deer skins rubbed with bison brain.
The Tonkawa Tribe's daily routine was quite repetitive. In the morning they would get ready to go traveling and then abandon their camps. Next for the rest of the afternoon they would travel, hunt, and gather resources. Then in the evening they would set up camp again. If they were to do something different it would be to celebrate a tradition or if an emergency came up.
