Characterisation

A character is the representation of a person in a work of fiction.

A flat character is a simple, uncomplicated character that does not develop or change in the course of action. The author presents the character only in outline, without much individualizing detail. This kind of character can be described by a few adjectives.

A round character is complex in temperament and motivation. He or she is presented with detailed individual traits, develops in the course of the story and changes his or hers attitudes and values.
