Lord of the Flies
Soundtrack
The first chapter of Lord of the Flies is portrayed in this song, Welcome To The Jungle. The lyrics of this song explain that being in the jungle will bring you to your knees, cause you to bleed profusely, teach you how to live like an animal, and so on. All the action/events happen in later chapters and are foreshadowed in the beginning. For example, " You know where you are, you're in the jungle darling, you're going to die" (Guns n' Roses) . This line can represent the Simon and Piggy's death on the island (jungle).
Ralph has an idea in this chapter to create a signal fire on top of the mountain so that a ship or plane could notice it and rescue them. The fire grows larger and consumes the forests. In the fire, one of the littluns perishes. Guns N' Roses song says "Look at your young men dying." "Take a look at the fear we're feeding." This is a representation of the dead boy, who was the one who told the boys about the beast and frightened them. Additionally, the title of the song foreshadows what is to come: civil war.
This song illustrates Chapter 3 because in this chapter, Jack's hunters go out to hunt and kill the pig lurking on the island. The songs lyrics "Hungry like the wolf," (Duran Duran). Jack was sharpening his stick and getting ready to kill the pig, he was hungry like the wolf, just like in the song. However, Jack fails to kill the pig, which Ralph does not appreciate. Ralph believes that because of his hunting group, Jack is straying from his real responsibilities. This belief could lead to additional wolf-like deaths as a result of Jack's actions.
In chapter 4, Jack and his hunters begin wearing paint on their faces, just like the lyric in this song ''Put on your war paint!'' The lyrics ''You know time crawls on when you're waiting for a song to start, so dance alone to the beat of your heart.'' represents their ''Kill the pig!" song. "Strike a match and I'll burn you to the ground." shows Jack and Ralph's fighting about the fire.
This eerie piece is ideal for Chapter 5 because it reflects the boys' terror of the beast. The music in this song makes you feel tense, exactly like the boys terrified of the beast in the middle of the night. The boys' belief in the beast is becoming more severe now that it is frightening the older boys, such as Ralph. In addition, the beast serves as a metaphor for the boys' emotions later in the novel.
Due to the falling dead parachute man in the sky, this song portrays chapter 6. When Samneric returns to Ralph to tell him about what he saw in the sky, Ralph organizes a group to investigate the cave. However, when the boys reach the suspected caves, they become afraid, so Ralph goes in alone at first, followed by Jack. Since the boys were unable to locate the beast, they returned to the shelters. Perhaps the beast is someplace over the rainbow, as the song's title suggests.
I chose this song to represent the transition from the boys in Chapter 1 to the boys in Chapter 7. The lyrics state "We don't need no education, we don't need no thought control," (Pink Floyd). These lyrics demonstrate how rebellious the boys have become in comparison to their previous lifestyle, which was controlled by rules. However, after being stranded on the island, the boys began to act cruelly, similar to Jack.
This song, I believe, is appropriate for Chapter 8, as it describes Simon's wanderings and even his encounter with the pig head. The song's opening lines connect to Simon's constant state of solitude as he walks about the island contemplating. When Simon gets near the boys, it's as if he's walking down a boulevard of broken dreams, as all of their fantasies are shattered by reality. Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Days lead singer, mentions in the chorus that he wishes someone would find him. this is what the boys also want.
This song discusses how you are a cannibal who eats everything regardless of who you are. This song would play during the scene of Simon's death because of how relentless the boys were at the time. When the boys noticed a dark shadow, they assumed it was the beast, but it was actually Simon. As they were still revved up from their previous chanting and dancing, the boys went straight to the killing.
This song does an excellent job of capturing what Jack's tribe does to Ralph's camp. The lyrics that portray this are "I see the bad moon rising, I see trouble on the way," (Creedence). Jack's tribe raids Ralph's camp in search of Piggy's glasses in order to make fire. Another line from the song is, "Hope you got your things together, Hope you're ready to die" (Creedence). The ruthless action of Jack's tribe in stealing Piggy's glasses creates a whole new opportunity for a fight.
i selected this song because it is about standing up for what you believe is right. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph is not afraid to defend Piggy and his glasses. Ralph is currently viewed as brave because he is the only one standing up to Jack's massive killing tribe. the song says "You said you were king, you lied through your teeth," (Eminem). When Jack is fighting with Ralph over Piggy's glasses, this shows how barbaric a leader like Jack can be. However, this scene does not end well, as Piggy is mauled by a huge rock by Roger. Now that Jack’s tribe has killed Piggy, they only have more left to kill, and they are definitely not afraid.
This chapter's ending is as vicious as animals, and the song Animals by Maroon 5 fits perfectly. For example, the song says, "Maybe you think you can hide, but I can smell your scent from miles away" (Maroon 5). When Jack smokes the forest to make it easier to find and kill Ralph, it means it will be difficult to escape Jack's tribe. Another song instance is "Baby, I'm preying on you tonight, Hunt you down, eat you alive" (Maroon 5). This demonstrates Jack's tribe's determination to murder Ralph no matter what it takes.
This song concludes Lord of the Flies because it talks about being saved, just as the boys do at the end of the book. the lyric that supports my point is "I got saved." After the boys the island, their guilt over their murders can be erased. the song says "All of my guilt was erased, the chains of the past are finally broken." This song describes the boys' rescue.
Although there are no lyrics in this song, the title speaks for itself. This song can represent the entire book because when they were united, they were doing well, but as they divided, they began to fall apart.
