Treaty of Paris 1783

What is the Treaty of Paris?

What is it?

The Treaty of Paris ended the Revolutionary War between the British and Americans. At this point, the British finally recognized the independence of America and gave up all their land east of the Mississippi River. This was the official end to the war.

Who signed it?

Who signed it?

At first, there were originally five people that were supposed to sign the treaty with the British: Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Jay, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Laurens. Among these five men, only three of them truly traveled to sign the treaty and those three were Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay. Henry Laurens could not make it because he got captured before hand and Thomas Jefferson was unable to travel.

Issues

The British did not want to give up many forts they already owned. Americans refused to stop taking from innocent or loyal people from during the war. John Jay went to Europe to fix these certain problems and the agreement later was named after Jay as the Treaty of Jay. This treaty really helped fix the problems at hand.
