The Franks Moving To Amsterdam

  • Summer 1933 the Frank family emigrated to Holland Amsterdam worried about the persecution of German Jews

  • There Otto Frank (Annes Father) was later appointed Managing Director of Travies N.V

Reich Citizenship Law

  • under the Nuremberg Race Laws, Jews that were German lost their citizenship and were also banned from getting involved in relationships with non- jews

  • The franks were free from these laws since each of the family members did not live in Germany, and so they were allowed to retain possession of their citizenship

Otto Frank Registers For US Visas

  • Otto Frank traveled to Rotterdam to register his family so that they can settle in the United States

  • The United States constricted the number of people born in each country who could immigrate each year

  • The Frank family registered for the German waiting list because each of them were born in Germany

Germany Invades Western Europe

  • In the attack the German air forces demolished the US consulate in Rotterdam, where the Franks had registered for US immigration. All paper work on file for their visas was destroyed

Jews In The Netherlands Forced To Wear Star Of David

  • The head of the SS in the nazi-occupied Netherlands "Johann Rauter" ordered all jews that live in the Netherlands to visibly wear a "Jewish star" when in public

  • Each jewish star was distributed to each jewish household, including Anne Franks family

Frank Family Goes Into Hiding

July 6, 1942

  • On July 5, 1942, Anne sister Margot Frank received a call-up notice commanding her to report for a "German work camp"

  • The next morning the Franks left clues that they had escaped to Switzerland. When they actually went into hiding with another family the ( Van Daans) later then Albert Dussel joined the two families in hiding. They hid in a secret annexe of an old office building with the help of a woman named Meip Gies, who worked within the building

The Annexe Is Discovered

august 4, 1944

  • In the late morning, Dutch police entered the "Secret Annexe" and arrested the Frank Family, the Van Daans, and Albert Dussel, as well as all the people who were involved with helping the residents into hiding.

  • The Franks were then sparated and sent off, Anne Frank and her sister Margot were sen to concentration camps where they later died from starvation and a disease named typhus
