Professional Programs

The Bachelor of Education is also a great program to start in if you are looking at other professional programs or graduate programs:

  • Business
  • Law
  • Speech Language Pathology
  • Counselling Psychology
  • Special Education

"When I came to University, I was primarily interested in Law. However, receiving an undergraduate degree is strongly advised before attempting to enter the Faculty...I realized that entering the Faculty of Education would provide more applicable skills, such as speaking and situation management, as well as be more marketable on its own. It also provides a good career that I would be interested in if I chose not to pursue Law."

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Transfer Applicants

  • If you have less than 9 credits in post-secondary coursework, we will only look at high school courses for a competitive average
  • If you have 9-22.5 transferable post-secondary credits (3-7 courses), we look at a combination of at least 70% from English 30-1 + 4 other 30 level subjects and a competitive average in all transferable post-secondary coursework
  • If you have 24-60 transferable post-secondary credits we require a competitive average on your transferable post-secondary coursework

**The Admission Grade Point Average is calculated using the most recent 24 transferable, non-repeated credits without breaking up a term

After Degree Applicants

  • Recognized 3-4 year degree from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Competitive AGPA

After Degree Applicants

APPLICATION TIP: CHOOSING YOUR SECOND CHOICE

Every new applicant to the University of Alberta gets 2 choices on their application.

You can use this as your back-up, however, choosing Education as a second choice may not result in an admission offer. We may not evaluate your second choice until the end of the admission cycle, if there is room in your chosen program.

*If you are serious about pursuing multiple programs or routes, you may wish to submit 2 separate applications with Education as the first priority

Successful Transfer Tips

Successful Transfer Tips

1. Check with a prospective student advisor in the Faculty of Education about how you can determine if coursework you are taking is transferable and could potentially meet a degree requirement.

2. Use the Transfer Alberta website. Not all courses transfer between institutions - always make sure you check!

3. Apply as early as possible for your chosen intake! Admission is competitive and based on a number of factors such as the number of qualified applicants to particular programs, the AGPA's presented by applicants, and capacity in individual programs. Plus, we can keep you updated on your application and you can potentially have earlier access to enroll in your classes.

*Always remember our program is subject to change and you will be subject to the admission requirements and program requirements at the time of your application and evaluation.

English Literature & Composition

English

  • As per Alberta Education, for certification, students must complete a minimum of *3 credits in literature
  • Ensure course(s) are transferable to the U of A as per Transfer Alberta and that at least one course is literature focused if you're wanting to complete this requirement prior to transferring
  • Example: ENGL 102 = Composition, ENGL 103 = Literature. For students taking both to meet *6 credits of English, this works!

2. Check the Requirements

3. Submit your Application
