Proper Posture:

Posture, back support and typing posture

  • Parallel: Sit with your upper arms parallel to your spine
  • Eyes: Make sure that your resting eye level is aimed directly at the center of your screen
  • Arch: To support your lower back you want to make sure that you are sitting all the way back in your chair, with a cushion to keep your lower back arched
  • Shoulders: To make sure that you are getting the proper lumbar support needed while sitting, your shoulders should be pulled back so that your ears are in line with them

  • Get up out of your chair at least every hour and, when you do, place your hands in the small of your lower back, push your hips forwards and lean back as far as you can 2 or 3 times to reset the natural curve of your spine.

  • Sit about two feet away from a computer screen to reduce eyestrain
  • Make sure the center of the computer monitor is slightly lower than eye level — four to eight inches
  • Use a matte screen filter to reduce glare on your smartphone, computer screen, or tablet
  • Use a larger font to keep your eyes from working hard to see letters
  • Reduce glare with softer lighting
  • Take a break from electronic screens every 15 to 30 minutes, just for a minute: Look away from the screen, Do something else, and refocus on a distant target

  • Get enough sleep, but don't oversleep:

Get the right balance of sleep each night,

making sure to go to bed & wake up at consistent times.

  • Rest and relax. Try to rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp
  • Keep a headache diary. Continue recording in your headache diary even after you see your doctor. It will help you learn more about what triggers your migraines and what treatment is most effective
