Technology Transference

Cultural contact is the most important way to transfer technological knowledge, said this, we were influenced by Spain.

However, during Industrial Revolution, Spaind didn't have much development on Engineering, they prefered getting resources from their colonies.

No engineering on Peru?

Since peruvians were still influenced by spanish thoughts, there was not a clear definition about development and planification. Due to that,Ramon Castilla decided to break the theoric path and promote industrial development

No engineering on Peru?

Peru is a beggar sitting on a gold bench?

Peru is a beggar sitting on a gold bench?

I think NO because when Peru become independant there were no engineers. Eventhough, they were great at farming, handicrafts, there were not professionals able to to joing this knowledge with technology, science and social development.

It's true Peru had big sources of cupper, silver and so on, but they didn't have the required machines, technical knowledge to extract and transform this resources.

Engineers on Peru

As Peru didn't have engineers and different means of communication between cities were needed, they hired European engineers (1852). Besides, these engineers were influenced by French College. It means they were good at science and knowledge but they were not competent enough in their countries, that's the main reason why they came to Peru

De Habich & Elmore

De Habich & Elmore

These two engineers (1 polish & 1 peruvian) didn't agree with French thoughts. On the other hand, they thought scientific basis were not enough for engineers, engineers needed to be trained making things.

Teodore Elmore said that Peru needed more politechnical colleges. Then, Engineers College was created in order to train people according to topics required on Peru such as civil engineers and chemistry industries but they focused more on mining.

De Habich was selected to be the director of this organization and he didn't want to accept people graduated as scientists because they were not engineers according to Brittish thoughts.

Furthermore, De Habich kept teaching what he thought was the right path to be an engineer such as professional competence , ethics , commitment , STATISTICS and POLITICAL ECONOMY.

Engineering Nowadays

I think we are still influenced by French thoughts , but that's not an obstacle to develop our training because knowledge has become worldwide reachable.

Many sources of information are available to be competent on the professional market around the world.
