The 2 World Wars caused a wave of persecution to begin in Canada.
In 1918, The clergy influenced the government to ban "The Finished Mystery," and some editions of "Bible Student's Monthly." Possessing these publications could result in a $5,000 fine. They also planted a spy into the organization. Her name was Mrs. Jeckle.
on July 4, 1940, Canadian Minister of Justice Ernest Lapointe declared that Jehovah's Witnesses were banned. In 1946, Brother Knorr announced that there would be a new publication out, Quebec's Burning Hate. Duplessis retaliated by saying that anyone found distributing this magazine would be charged with sedition removing the liquor license of a wealthy Jehovah's Witness, financially ruining him.
