REFERENCE BOOK USED BY DESIGNER

Industrial Ventilation A Manual of Recommended Practice

Published by American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH)

Used by engineers, regulators and industrial hygienists

Used to to design and evaluate industrial ventilation systems

Design Standard

DESIGN STANDARD

No specific standard for designing of local exhaust ventilation system

Design Standard followed American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH)

Approval

APPROVAL

Standard

Designer has to submit standard to be used for approval by Director General of Occupational Safety and Health before proceed with design.

Director General

Director General will evaluate the design standard of the local exhaust ventilation system.

4.0 Inspection, Testing and Examination of Local Exhaust Ventilation System (LEVS)

Chapter 4

Every LEVS should be inspected, tested and examined at regular interval to ensure system works properly and efficiently.

New installed system should be thoroughly tested and examined to ensure design specifications are met and airflow through each of the hood is sufficient to extract contaminant effectively

Purpose of inspection: ensure system functioning properly and efficiently

Inspection of LEVS consists of:

4.1 Inspection

Smoke Tube Tracer Test

Inspection has to be done at least once a month or at shorted interval as specified by the designer.

Inspection can be done by any person that has been taught the procedure to carry out the inspection.

Purpose of testing and examination: to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the LEVS and to detect malfunction of the system.

4.2 Testing & Examination

T & E of LEVS consists of:

Testing and Examination (T&E) of LEVS has to be carried out at least every 12 months or at shorter interval as specified by the designer.

T&E need to be done during commissioning of a new installed LEVS as to verify that the system is working as per design.

Act as a baseline data that will be used for comparison when subsequent T&E to be carried out.

Determination of capture of face velocity

Determination of duct velocity and temperature
