We all know, in arid regions there is an extreme scarcity of water, people must take certain steps to conserve water.
So, how can they initiate this?
One alternative is, on daily basis, they can try to store some water they obtain through their taps and normal supplies and can continue the same for a long time. Simple?
But how long will it last? A week? A month? Maybe a year?
Is this an effective measure?
So here comes the solution to the problem, Rainwater Harvesting.
You must have heard about the term.
1. In semi-arid or arid regions of Rajasthan, people have traditionally constructed tanks in their houses for storing water.
2. are built inside the main house or the courtyard and are connected to the sloping roofs of the houses through a pipe.
3.Rain falling on the rooftops flow down through the pipe and gets accumulated in these tanks.
Now, you may be confused, won't the rainwater get dirty after falling on the roof. Isn't collecting this quality of water worthless or a waste of efforts?
But, in reality, the first rain is never collected because it cleans the roofs and the pipes. The rainwater from the next shower is then collected.
Also, you should know that the rainwater stored in tanks is considered as the most reliable source of water, particularly in summers when most water sources are dried up. The stored water can be used until the next rainy season.
