OBJECTIVES

  • Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Centre (BITAC) is an autonomous body under Ministry of Industries.

  • We have studied here different machines under different shop/division and their operations. We are going to discuss each section with their operations and working procedures.

Inspection Section (IS)

Industrial Engineering Division (IED)

IED

IED is a division of engineering which handles the optimization of the processes/system. This section works to minimize the waste of time and utilize the money, materials, man-hour, machine time, energy and other resources. IED analysis the costs of each oreder from customers before taking the order.

Production Control Division (PCD)

PCD

PCD is the department of planning and manufacturing process in a company. It utilizes the resources allocation activities of employees, materials and production capacity in order to serve customer needs.

Inspection Section (IS)

Inspection Section evaluates and examine the job. Inspection involves the measurement, tests the certain characteristics in regard to a finished job

Heat Treatment (HT)

Protective Coating (PC)

Heat Treatment (HT)

Heat treatment consist of heating and cooling to achieve a desired temperature. Heat treatment technique involves-

  • Tempering
  • Carburizing
  • Annealing
  • Hardening
  • Quenching

HT

Protective Coating (PC)

A protective coating is a layer of material applied to the surface of another material with the intent of preventing corrosion. A protective coating may be-

  • Metallic: Zinc, Aluminum, etc.
  • Non-metallic: polymers, epoxies, etc.

TOOLS

Protective Coating uses the following tools-

  • Rectifier machine- converts AC to DC current.
  • Chemical filter machine.
  • Polishing machine- uses to polish metals.
  • Water tank.

FOUNDRY SHOP

Foundry Shop

FOUNDRY

Foundry is a manufacturing factory where Ferrous or Non-Ferrous metal are melted and poured into mould to form metal casting. This shop also manufacture mould core for casting metals.

FURNACES

Furnaces used in the Foundry shop-

  • Tilt furnaces
  • Electrical furnaces
  • Cupolas furnaces
  • Crucible furnaces

MACHINES

The Machines which are used in this shop-

  • Sand blasting machine- uses to clean a surface.
  • Sand mixture machine- uses for mixing core sand and molding sand.
  • Core oven- uses for baking foundry core.

Pattern Shop

TOOLS

Pattern is a shape of wood/metal around which sand is packed in the mold. For making pattern some tools are needed as below-

  • Inside and outside calipers

FABRICATION

Metal fabrication is the making of metal form by cutting, bending and assembling process.

Machine Maintenance Shop

MAINTENANCE

Maintenance generally used to keep running the active machine and repaire of damaged machine.

LIGHT SHOP

  • Vertical & Horizontal Shaper machine: turning, facing, step turning, taper turning, knurling, threading, boring, drilling.
  • Vertical & Horizontal milling machine: plunge cuts, drilling.
  • Capstan lathe machine: turning, drilling, grooving, threading, boring, forming, reaming.
  • Boring Machine: drilling, boring, reaming.

HEAVY SHOP

  • Horizontal boring machine: facing, drilling, boring, gear cutting, internal flat cutting etc.
  • Vertical lathe and boring machine: turning, facing, boring, radius cutting by hand.
  • Jig boring machine: drilling, boring counter boring, facing reaming, slot cutting etc.
  • Hydraulic and Mechanical planer machine: surface finish, side cutting, slot cutting, grinding.

Machines used in the Moulding Shop

  • Power press machine: used for punching or drawing operation.
  • Hobbing power press machine: molding, blanking, forging.
  • Pantograph milling machine: use for making drafting, medals, monogram, seals.
  • Universal coping milling machine: coping to metal.

MOLDING

Machines used in the CNC Shop

CNC

  • Conventional vertical milling machine: drilling, boring, slot cutting, facing.
  • CNC pantograph machine: use for making drafting, medals, monogram, seals.
  • CNC lathe machine: turning, facing, grooving.
  • CNC wear cut EDM: cutting of gear, punches and dies.
  • Die sinking machine: die punch, mold cavity.

CONCLUSION

  • Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center (BITAC) has been playing an important role by means of introducing new era of Industrial sectors.

  • In the last four weeks we have studied a lot of technical and practical knowledges of manufacturing industries. This training will hepl us to build our career in the industrial sector.
