Gestational Hypertension in Black Women

Introduction

  • Gestational hypertension is a huge issue for women
  • Issue for black women
  • Suffer from hypertension at a higher rate than their white counterparts
  • Health disparity
  • There is a 73% concern of hypertension in the African American community (Asiedu, et all)

Healthy People 2020

Healthy People 2020 has an objective to improve cardiovascular health for all through prevention, education and more. This includes hypertension and gestational hypertension. They also recommend screening in pregnant women to prevent preeclampsia ("Preeclampsia: Screening in Pregnant Women").

  • Spending less money on hospitalizations due to complications due to hypertension
