The polar bear is the largest Mammal, that is part of the bear family. It’s scientific name is Ursus maritimus and it is an endangered species.
Polar Bears only live in countries that ring around the arctic circle. For example Canada, Russia, the United States (in Alaska), Greenland and Norway. they live on ice bergs in the oceans. They build themselves a little cave / igloo.
Polar bears eat Seals, Fish, Walruses and Beluga whales. Polar Bears can Be green or yellow depending on their diet. If they eat to many seals, the oil from the seal skin goes into their fur and makes it go yellow. They can go green if algae grows on their fur. POlar bears live to around 15 to 18 years. They have babies about March to June on the sea ice. They give birth to usually twins.
there are Between 22 000 and 40 000 polar bears in the world. Polar bears are becoming more and more extinct because of global warming. This is melting their habitats and the ice they live in and depend on. Wolves and arctic foxes are predAtors to polar bears and also harm their numbers.
