  • What is a noun?
  • What is a pronoun?
  • What is an antecedent?

Quick Review

Answer:

  • A noun is a person, place, thing, or idea.
  • A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun. (Example: He, She, They, We, Us). Some people may perfer genderless pronouns such as singular "They" or "Ze/Zir."
  • An antecedent it the noun to which the pronoun is referring to in a sentence.

It's important to keep in mind that objects will be replaced by the pronoun "it" or "its."

Vague Pronouns

  • Vague means that something is unclear or not clearly stated
  • A vague pronoun means that we are unsure or unclear about which noun or noun phrase the pronoun is referring to because it's not clearly stated.
  • Remember: The antecedent is the noun to which the pronoun is refferring to.
  • A vague pronoun confuses the reader.

Answer: The antecedent is hidden. In other words who is he?
