Soil And Major Types Of Crops.

Meaning Of Soil.

  • Soil is the topmost layer of the Earth that supports life. It is a method of planting trees and plants. The roots of plants and trees bind the social particles and prevent erosion.

3 Main Soils.

  • The three main soils are SANDY SOIL , SILT SOIL AND CLAY SOIL.

Ishan.

Sandy Soil.

The First Type of Soil is sand . It consists of small particles of weathered rock. Sandy soils are one of the poorest types of soil for growing plants because it has very low nutrients and poor water holding capacity, which makes it hard for the plant's roots to absorb water.

Sandy Soil.

Silt Soil.

Silt, which is known to have much smaller particles compared to sandy soil and is made up of rock and other mineral particles, which are smaller than sand and larger than clay. It is the smooth and fine quality of the soil that holds water better than sand.

Silt Soil.

Clayey Soil.

Clay is the smallest particle amongst the other two types of soil. The particles in this soil are tightly packed together with each other with very little or no airspace. This soil has very good water storage qualities and makes it hard for moisture and air to penetrate into it.

Clay Soil.

Control Overgrazing.

Overgrazing occurs when plants are exposed to intensive grazing for extended periods, or without sufficient recovery periods. It can be caused by either livestock in poorly managed agricultural applications, game reserves, or nature reserves.

Avoiding the act of grazing too early, you can have the stockpiled in the rainy season (spring) so that there is enough grass in the dry periods (summer).

Terrace Farming.

Steps can be cut out on slopes making terraces. Terrace Cultivation restricts erosion. Western and Central Himalayas have well developed terrace farming.

Types of Crops grown in Black and Laterite.

Cotton , Wheat , Linseed , Millets , Tobacco , Oilseeds, Rice , Sugar Cane . These Crops are Grown in Black Soil.

Tea , Coffee , Rubber , Coconut , Areca Nut , Also provides valuable Building Materials . Thes Crops are Grown in Laterite Soils.

Types Of Soils.

Contour Ploughing.

  • You might all think what is contour ploughing...
  • Well contour ploughing Contour ploughing mitigates the impacts of floods, storms and landslides on the crops by reducing soil erosion up to 50 percent, controlling runoff water, increasing moisture infiltration and retention and thus enhancing soil quality and composition

Crop Rotation.

  • Crop rotation is the practice of planting different crops sequentially on the same plot of land to improve soil health, optimize nutrients in the soil, and combat pest and weed pressure.
  • For example, say a farmer has planted a field of corn. When the corn harvest is finished, he might plant beans, since corn consumes a lot of nitrogen and beans return nitrogen to the soil.

Crop Rotation.

Construction Of Dams.

  • Dams are massive barriers built across rivers and streams to confine and utilize the flow of water for human purposes. These purpose may be irrigation, hydropower, watersupply, floodcontrol, navigation, fishing, recreation. This confinement of water of water creates lakes or reservoirs.
  • A dam is usually constructed across a river to create a reservoir in the valley behind by storing the water that flows into it naturally.

Strip Cropping.

It is used when a slope is too steep or when there is no alternative method of preventing soil erosion. The most common crop choices for strip cropping are closely sown crops such as hay, wheat, or other forages which are alternated with strips of row crops, such as corn, soybeans, cotton, or sugar beets.
