Two women, Joy and Mary were waqtching the news one day and were suprised that a Wes Moore was being looked for with the charge of Murder of a Police officer

The Youth And Crime

Society effects

The Wes Moore's

Two men with the same name, similar up bringings but very diffretnt outcomes. Both born in Baltimore, growing up without a father and living in poverty, to one becoming a wanted murder and another becoming a successful politician. Both outcomes are due to support.

The rate of crime and how law enforcement reacts to it also play an important role in affecting the behavior and mindset of teens. If kids find crime to be prevalent around them, then they may accept it as something normal, and might even indulge in it eventually. However, things can be entirely different if the situation of law enforcement is better in the neighborhood. If teens see criminals getting punished for their crimes, then they will know that walking down the wrong path has its consequences, and thus refrain from making a similar choice. Both of these scenarios are triggered by society, while you don’t have a huge role to play in this.

What Can We Do

My desperation for her support was in constant tension with my desperation for independence and freedom. I projected eapathy about her feelings, but I wanted nothing more than to make her proud.

The moments everything changed

The Power Of Presence

Absent Parents

The Wes Moore's lifes

We should have more support groups for Kid's who don't get a lot of support at home. In General just be nice to people. You never know what is going on in someones life. Even if you do not like the person, maybe some kindness will make them reflect or just make their day. Having people support you can empact how things go in your life, so if you don't want anyone to go down the wrong path, Just support them and be nice.

Being understood is an essential ingredient to feeling connected and supported. When someone important to us understands us, their hearing us helps us to tune into ourselves and accept our emotions as real and meaningful. This ultimately supports the growth of self-compassion and the capacity to be empathic with others. Validation is simply the act of letting someone else know their experience is real.

So when Children have a lack of Validation in their life, they might start looking for Validations in all the wrong place's, not knowing that it is wrong.

Growing up, The author had a Supportive mother. She tried anything in her power to give Wes and his sisters the best life. No matter how much Wes hated it at the time, It worked out in the end. He ended up accomplishing so many things he might not have had if he never had these opportunities.

The changing point for the Author, Wes Moore was being being sent off to millitary school at valley forge millitary academy. His mom, Joy threatening to send him off if he did not fix his behavior in school. Wes thinking she was bluffing decided to not change. Next thing he knew he was in Pennsylvania, attending a millatay school

Wes had begain his drug career after his mother, Mary and older brother, Tony had told him that he should never get into a drug career. Tony had been in the drug game and gotten shot 3 times. Mary not wanting him to get into drugs was suprised when he got a girl pregnant at the age of 16 and had been selling drugs the whole time so that he could support his family

This Is a qoute from Cahpter 7, page 103. Wes was meeting The other Wes in Prison. The other Wes was answering the question of “Do you think we’re all just products of our environments?”

Wes only had his mother and brother. His mother was not around a lot due to her trying to make ends mee, Leaving him with his brother Tony

Wes seeing this and seeing all the things Tony is getting out of it, He decided to join the Drug scene despite Tony advising he should never do it. He did not have stable support.

We will do what others expect of us . . . If they expect us to graduate, we will graduate. If they expect us to get a job, we will get a job. lf they expect us to go to jail, then that’s where we will end up too. At some point you lose control.
