The Olmec Civilization was one of the most mysterious of the Mesoamerican civilizations. Not much is known about the Olmecs. In fact, we do not even know what they referred to themselves as. The name Olmec was what the Aztecs called them. Olmec translating in Nahuatl to "Rubber People" because of the abundance of rubber tress in the Olmec Civilization.
Olmec Culture was also very strange in and of itself, with the unique stone heads (similar to those on Easter Island) pictured to the right.
Remember, Red means good and blue means bad.
The Olmec Empire begins to start recording data. The data (though little in number), was responsible for the discovery of the Olmec Empire.
The Olmecs begin to start demonstrating their skill in art. This manifest by creating statues out of clay and carved wood.
The first major cities in the Olmec empire also began to flourish. Including La Venta, and San Lorenzo.
The fall of San Lorenzo as the major trading city of the empire. San Lorenzo was replaced with the city of La Venta becoming the new trading capital.
Sacrificial Pyramids were used at their peak in this year. The pyramids (used to sacrifice people, obviously) were very common in the outskirts of the major cities in the Olmec Empire. Such as the city of La Venta.
The fall of La Venta results in what is widely known as the end of the Olmec Empire.
