Industrial Revolution

Industrial revolution Causes

Causes

Inventors

Inventors

Inventors were keen to improve technology and make production of goods easier because of the huge market that was in that area at that time. It was a good money making industry because of the growing population meant that this industry will require to keep up which put pressure on inventors. That played a key role in improving technology.

Combustion Engine

The combustion engine was discovered in 1823 by Samuel Brown. It was first used to apply atmospheric pressure, and was demonstrated in a carriage and a boat, and in 1830 commercially to pump water to the upper level of the Croydon Canal. It is called a combustion engine because the fuel is ignited in order to do work inside the engine.

What Is The Engine Used For Today

The internal combustion engine is now used for vehicles, boats, ships, airplanes, and trains. The engine as been massively improved on in terms of power tuning for the specific vehicle that the engine is going into to get the best possible performance.

What It Is Used For Today

Watt Steam Engine

James Watt was an 18th-century inventor and instrument maker. James invented a lot of other useful products but was best known for the steam engine.

What Was the Steam Engine Used For?

What Was It Used For?

The steam Watt engines were used for pumping water from mines all over the country. In around 1764, James was given a model Newcomen engine to repair. That's when he realised how inefficient it was and improved it. James's initial improvements to the steam engine developed by Newcomen allowed for more power and less water to be used. Eventually the pumping arm was attached to gears and this allowed for the engine to be used for transportation as well.

What is it used for now?

Steam engines aren't commonly used today but they can be seen in museums. But however steam power is still heavily used around the world in various applications. Many modern electrical plants use steam generated by burning coal to produce electricity.

What is it used for now?

Population

Population

Between the years 1750-1850 the English population was estimated to over double England's population. Even though exact numbers don't exist because there was no nationwide census to back it up.

Urbanisation

Due to the high population technological and scientific developments eventually led industries to build factories outside of London. As a result, multiple cities in England grew larger and smaller urban environments. Which gave more working opportunities in factories and other mass places of employment were born.

Marriage Related Changes

Marriage

In the first half of the 18th century Briton had a relevantly high age of marriage compared to a large percentage of in Europe that didn't didn't get married. Suddenly, the average age of married people for the first time fell, as did the number of people choosing never to marry. This also help boost the population growth.

Death Rates

Death rates started to increase because of the high population. The small towns could catch up to the mass population making living very cramped and diseases easy to spread.

Technological Advances

Technological- Advances

Technological advances in the industrial revolution helps a variety of areas of living. Some of the advances enabled to be able contact people overseas, celebrate occasions with explosions and transport.

Telegraph Communication

Telegraph communications

Telegraph communications was invented in the 1840s and was used to be able to communicate over long distances using coded pulses of electric current. This advanced into a affordable hand held communication device that everyone in the 2000s owns .

Typewriter

The typewriter was made in 1868 by printer and journalist Christopher Latham Sholes of Wisconsin. It was originally made to be able to write using inc by pressing letters on a board. The typewriter has advanced into electronic device that can fulfill the main purpose of the typewriter by can do so much more.

This image shows the evolution of the typewriter to the modern computer.

Industrial revolution

Effects

Effects

Transport

Transport

Transport in the industrial revolution was based around roads, canals, and railways. Those are the three major components of transportation improved during the industrial revolution. The changes to transport came in several stages. First Roads were improved, then Canals were built and finally the Railway was developed.

Trains

In the industrial revolution trains really made life easier for the everyday worker because it allowed them to get to work faster so they could spend more time at work. Trains also were used for transportation of goods for company.

Pollution

Now that trains are coming more popular it is having a great effect on polluting the the atmosphere. The coal that is used to power the trains engine is now entered into the atmosphere wrecking the environment.

Speed

The newly made trains made traveling so much faster making it possible for works to get to and from work faster allowing them to have longer working days to make more money. It also made transporting products faster to companies for them to sell it to their receivers.

Boats

Before the Industrial Revolution, there was a definite wait in almost everything that took place in the United States. It took weeks and sometimes months just to send a letter or pass information. Motorised boats and canals were then invented to allow faster shipping of goods.

Social Changes

Social revolutions are sudden changes in the structure and nature of society. These revolutions are usually recognized as having transformed in society, culture and technology much more than political systems.

Social Change

Living Conditions

The living conditions in the cities and towns were miserable, now considered unlivable. Living was overcrowding, poor sanitation, spread of diseases was imminent, and pollution. As well, workers were paid low wages that barely allowed them to afford the cost of living associated with their rent and food.

Living Conditions

Houses

The houses in the industrial revolution were overcrowded because of the high raise in population the industrial revolution.

Overcrowding

Overcrowding was a large problem in the industrial revolution because of the high spike in population.

overcrowding

Medicine

In the industrial revolution the spread of diseases was a large problem because of the dense population. For the poorer class there would be 10 people in one house. This is the best way to spread a disease.

Jobs

There were fewer jobs in the cities because of the high spike in population. Men tended to work in dangerous industries, mines, steel mills, foundries, chemical works.

Payment

In the industrial revolution the majority of workers were unskilled due to their poor education. Most people received about $8-$10 dollars a week. Working at approximately 10 cents an hour. Skilled workers with a higher education earned a little more, but not significantly more. Women received one-third or sometimes one-half the pay that men received. Children received even less money.

Technology

Early when the Industrial revolution was occurring power sources such as water and wind were used to produced power. Later through the industrial revolution steam power and electricity played a major part in the industrial revolution to grow.

Modern Day Technology

Technology that was created in the industrial revolution to make power is still used today. For example windmills. Windmills have been improved over the years from improved technology to be more efficient and lest costly. These images show the difference between the old windmills and the new windmills.

Change Of Warfare

The change of warfare occurred occurred because of world war one. World war one occurred because lots of reasons. Those included militarism, alliances and fighting over empires.

Change Of Warfare

Weapons

Militarism is the stock piling of weapons. This was one of the main triggers that sparked world war one. The stock of weapons made other countries stock up on weapons. Then they didn't know what to do with them so that sparked the war.

Gun laws

Gun Laws

Gun laws have been applied in Australia since 1966 because of a mass shooting caused by a rapid fire assault rifle that took place in Tasmania in Port Arthur. Now to get a gun in Australia you need a license which is hard to get to be able to own a gun.

Military transport

Armstrong Whit-worth armored car. Austin-Kegresse armored car.Austin-Putilov armored car. Fiat-Izorski armored car. Fiat-Omsky armored car. Those cars were all made for world war one that occurred in the industrial revolution.
