World Religion Timeline

The official establishment of Hinduism (2300 and 1500 B.C)

The official establishment of Hinduism

Hinduism was established sometime between 2300 and 1500 B.C. in the Indus Valley. This religion is the oldest religion in the world. Hinduism has grown tremendously with about 900 million followers to this day, it is the third largest religion following Christianity and Islam. Hinduism has no specific founder, which means it is harder to collect information about the past. The Hindus have a wide range of religious beliefs. Because of this, it's sometimes referred to as a "family of religions" or a "style of life" rather than a single, established religion. Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism are just a few of the Indian religions that have close ties to Hinduism. The official establishment of Hinduism is significant because of the fact that it is the oldest religion.

The birth of Moses 1393 BCE

Birth of Moses

The birth of Moses is significant to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Moses was said to have been born in the late 14th century around 1393 BCE. Moses lived until the age of 120, meaning his life span was 120 years long. The Bible's book of Exodus describes a time when God's people were held as slaves by the Egyptians. By God's choice, Moses was born into the Egyptian family, adopted there, and given the name Moses. The ten commandments and the Passover holiday were both observed throughout Moses' lifetime. Because it marked the beginning of God's plan to free His people from Egyptian slavery, the birth of Moses was a major moment. The birth was also significant because it allowed God to come out with the ten commandments, the commandments were ten laws that the Israelites must follow and obey. I chose to include this event on my timeline because it marked many significant events that God continued to grow on throughout his lifetime.

The first temple (960 BCE)

The first temple

The First Temple was significant to Jewish. The First Temple was also known as Soloman’s Temple. This temple was a religious building for worship, this temple was also used as a place of gathering for the Isrelites. The Temple was significant because it is where the Ark of the Covenant was kept. The Ark contained The Ten Commandments, which were moved to Solomon's Temple by David and he brought them from Kiriath Jearim. I chose to include this date to my timeline because it was the first temple to be built and none of the other ones that came after this one wouldn’t have been built if it wasn’t for the first one existing.

His father was a wealthy king, and he was raised as a Hindu of the Kshatriya caste. The birth of Buddha is significant that I chose to include on my timeline because he made contributions to epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics, among other branches of philosophy. The Buddha's teaching served as the basis for the development of Buddhist philosophy, which was first practiced in South Asia and then spread to the rest of Asia.

The life of Jesus Christ (4AD-30AD)

The life of Jesus Christ

Jesus was born between the years 6 BC and 4 BC, and Mary the Virgin was his mother. The Messiah of Christians is Jesus. Due to the fact that Jesus is the son of God, he is both human and divine. Jesus was sent to earth in order to purify humanity of sin. Jesus was crucified between the ages of 30 and 33 in the first century AD. Jesus gave his own life as a sacrifice for us when he came to earth. Christ's death delivered humanity from sin. Before ascending to Heaven, he instructed his disciples to continue preaching his own message after rising from the dead three days later. The Bible and Catholicism were both influenced by this. Jesus' death created a new covenant with God and delivered the Holy Spirit on people. The life of Jesus Christ is significant because, through his teachings and examples, he inspires us to make positive changes in our own lives even while we encounter difficulties along the path. Jesus is important because he is constantly available to us and allows us to communicate with him whenever we wish.

The Qur'an ( 609-632 CE)

The Qur'an

The Quran was significant in the Islam religion. The holy book of Islam is the Qur'an. It's thought to be the words of God that the angel Gabriel spoke to Muhammad. It has been claimed that the Qur'an was gradually written over a long period of time, around 23 years, beginning in the year 609 CE and finishing in the year 632 CE. The Qur’an is significant to Muslims because they consider the Qur'an to be God's actual written message. As a result, they have specific guidelines and procedures that must be followed when dealing with the Qur'an in order to respect it. I chose to include this to my timeline because the Qur’an is a great resource for everyone including us because having the knowledge about it helps us realize that it is a helpful tool that helps us to have insight and to acquire the knowledge that could bring us closer to God and his creations.

The Great Schism (July 16, 1054)

The Great Schism

Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy are the two splits of the main branch of Christianity caused by the Great Schism in 1054. They continue to be the two biggest Christian denominations today. Political conflicts and religious disagreements joined together to cause The Great Schism. The issue of whether or not unleavened bread may be used for the sacrament of communion was one of the numerous disruptions between the Roman and Eastern Orthodox branches of the church. The Romans supported the practice while the Eastern Orthodox did not. The two branches of Christianity are still distinct expressions of the same faith today. Roman Catholicism is the most popular Christian sect, with more than a billion supporters worldwide. With over 260 million supporters, Eastern Orthodoxy is the second-largest Christian church. National churches like the Russian Orthodox Church and the Greek Orthodox Church are included in Eastern Orthodoxy. The Great Schism is a significant event that I added to my timeline because it is what caused the expansion of Christianity.

The life of Guru Nanak (April 15, 1469- 1539)

The life of Guru Nanak

Guru Nanak is significant in the Sikhism religion. Guru Nanak was born on April 15, in 1496, and passed away at the age of 69 in 1536. Nanak worked for a period of time as a storekeeper until spiritual experience encouraged him to leave his job and family. Guru Nanak later lived in Kartarpur, where he drew many of his disciples, Nanak became the first Guru of the Sikhs. Two of the teachings that Nanak taught throughout his lifetime were that there is only one God and that everyone has direct access to God without the need for priests or rituals. The caste system was attacked and equality for all people, regardless of caste or gender, was advocated in his most extreme social teachings. Guru Nanak is a significant person to include on the timeline because his inspirational teachings lead him to providing a new religious movement, in Kartarpur, he established a community of his supporters.

The Indian Act in Canada, including the Residential School System. (1920)

The Indian Act in Canada, including the Residential School System

Every Indigenous child was required to attend a residential school beginning in 1920 as a result of the Indian Act, and it was against the law for them to attend any other type of school. All elements of Indigenous culture were to be eliminated as a result of the residential schools. Students had short hair, wore uniforms, were frequently assigned numbers, and had their days planned out in advance by timetables. Even siblings rarely communicated with each other, and boys and girls were kept apart. Residential school students did not receive the same education as the general population in the public school system. Practical skills were the main focus of the lessons. Girls were prepared for domestic work and trained to cook, clean, sew, and do laundry. Boys were instructed in farming, and carpentry. There was a lot of abuse at the schools, including physical punishment, ongoing emotional and psychological torture, and frequent sexual abuse. This is a significant event that is important to add to the timeline because it allows us to bring our attention and dive deeper to fully understand the state of Aboriginal Concerns within Canada and the residential schools.

The Establishment of the American Atheists (1963)

The Establishment of the American Atheists

American Atheists was established in 1963 by Madalyn Murry O’Hair. The absence of faith in a god or gods is known as atheism. Many Atheists advocate rejecting faith in favor of rationality and logic. There are numerous varieties of atheism, each with minor or major differences that some people feel better describes them than just not believing in any god(s), which is Muehlhauser. Atheists have a wider range of beliefs, and some of them have no religious convictions at all. While others do not believe in God or gods, they adhere to religious customs and values. The establishment of American Atheists is a significant event in this religious timeline because it allows those to think and to beleive what they want to as there are many different approaches to this religion.
