who created it?

The Latin American city model was created by Ernest Griffin and Larry Ford in 1980.

why is it used?

WHy?

It is used because Latin American Countries were colonized by Spain and when they were colonized they had to follow the Laws of the indies. when they broke away from spain they still wanted to follow the grid pattern from the Law of the Indies but the cities were Growing very rapidly therefore the latin American City model was created.

Pro's and Cons

Pros : Strong CBD that extends around the city edge

Cons : made up of largely poor residential zones and a poor quailty of life

Purpose

To regulate the social, political, and economic structure of its colonies outside of Europe.

Purpose of the model

Structure

The model show that most cities have CBD, one dominant elite residential sector and a commercial spine. these areas are than surrounded by a series of concentric zone that decrease in residential quality farther from the CBD.
