Rosenzweig, Bennett and Diamond's study

To investigate the effect of rat's brain growth and chemistry in different environments

Aim

Three male rats were chosen at random and allocated in different conditions

Method

The brains of rats in enriched environments were different from the brains from the rats in poorer environments

Results

Conclusion

The enriched environment had a great impact on the cerebral cortex of the rats’ brains. Their neurons and synapses grew and the chemical activity of the brain also increased.

Evaluation

Limitations

- Ethical issues as living animals are used in the study

- Rats are not identical to humans

Strengths

- Learning that brain weight cannot be changed

- Find out there is a cause-effect relationship

-Study is replicable and has been repeated several times

The brain of the rats changed depending on the condition and environment the rats were placed in

Relationship of study with brain plasticity
