Introduction

For this CBA I'm going to be talking about positive mental health, and social medias affects on it. Also how coping Mechanisms work with mental health and how I use them.

What I plan to do

WHAT

Study the positive and negative effects of social media and discuss what are coping mechanisms and how I use them.

My strands

STRANDS

2.2 critique the impact of the media, advertising and other influences on one’s decisions about health and wellbeing

4.9 use coping skills for managing life’s challenges

how social media affects your mood

SocIAL media part 1

Social media affect on your mood it is not all negative. It can be like a roller coaster, it can bring your mood way up and then way down. This is a common topic of debate which has had many studies on it such as the one linked here https://tinyurl.com/2p8frw4c.

When we post something and we get a like it sets of the pleasure simulation in our brain pumping us with dopamine. If we get negative comments it can leave us deflated and feeling worthless. In fact lot of self-harming and Suicide have been connected to using social media.

The good and bad of social media

social media part 2

Now since half of this project is about social media I think it's important to talk about the good as well as bad sides of social media. However, people mainly seem to talk about the bad sides. But I want to talk about the good as well as the bad side of using social media. Not just one

The good side

good

There is an angle portrayed that Social Media is completely bad nothing good about it. And while it is true that it does create unrealistic standards for both girls and boys, it’s not all bad for instance. In fact a study by pewresearch said that 81% of teens say social Media has helped them feel more connected to one another 57% of teens say that they made lasting friendships online due to social media. It also can help draw attention to smaller businesses as a way for them to get their product out there.

the bad side

bad

Now on a negative note I am someone with a general love of social media but I have to understand that it's not all rainbows and butterflies, in fact since social media the suicide rates in teens have been rising. and Multiple studies have proven it can make people feel lonely depressed , anxious, and can lead to self harming and suicidal thoughts

Snapchat dysmorphia

Snap

Snapchat dysmorphia is when you feel like you need the filter to be considered pretty. It is most common in teens but that’s not to say it has not occurred in adults as well. Most Snapchat filters clear your skin, plump up your lips a considerable amount and give you doe eyes. Beautiful right. Except it’s not really you. And a lot of people are struggling with accepting that. Where without the filter you are somehow ugly. With 55% plastic surgeons. reporting that many young people have come in requesting to look like the filter. This percentage is increasing by 13% yearly

self care

Self care

Self care is really important to our physical and mental health. It's important that we make sure to make time for our self, as in going on a walk, or spending some time reading a book, or making time for yourself. It's important to put other first but It's also as important to put you first

important SELF CARE TIPS

TIPS

I've done some research and the most helpful tips I've found.

1. Shower every two days

2. Socialists with your friends

3. Have a Diary or a Journal and write down positive things about your day

4. Set mini goals and try to accomplish them don't make them too outlandish something small that you can a accomplish

more tips

TIPS 2

5. Practice exercise

6. Have a Balanced diet

7. Maintain a routine and stick to it

8. Try to block negative thoughts

Screen time tips

screen time tips

A study i found on a website abc news in 2019 reported that teens spend up to 7 hours per day on screens. When experts have said it's only okay to have 2 hours of screen time per day. There is an idea I stumbled across witch is were instead of scrolling on your phone in the morning you pick up a book. Try and replace time you'd usually spend on your phone for a book. You can also set a mode on your phone were it won't let you use it after a certain time

My screen time status

MY SCREEN TIME

So an average person sleeps for 8 hour and spends 41% of there waking hours on there screens. And The average adult will spend 34 years of there life on a screen

how much time do we spend on are phones

hOW MUCH OF ARE LIFES ARE ON ARE SCREENSs

What are the coping mechanisms

comping

Coping Mechanisms are strategies or techniques that people often use I when there experiencing pain, trauma, depression or difficult or painful emotions.

here ARE SOME COPING skills

Some coping Mechanisms

Deep breathing. This is were you focus on your breathing in and out in and out

Go for a run Get out go for a run if only for 15-20 minutes

Meditating, Now I have adhd and it doesn't really workout as I can't focus but for lots of other people clearing there mind is really helpful

Talking, it's so simple when you have a problem talk to a family member or a friend.

Animals it's scientifically been proven that animals have a claiming affect on you, if you have adhd like me it's said that they can relax kids with adhd and help them focus.

more

How I use them

How I use them

I'd like to note researching about them for this project has actually helped add some more to my horizons.

So I tend to get stressed and anxious a lot and normally I talk to people but I can't always talk to people I'm not always around people who I can talk to so I normally use a variety of coping mechanisms`. My favorite one is to write down what I'm worried about on a sheet of paper. And write down reasons that it's something I should not be worrying about this. That is a really good one. Since doing this project I've also started doing one I found witch is breathing in for a certain number and out an other certain number.

reflection

So I have given a reflection on a sheet but here's another one

What I found difficult : I found it hard to find information on coping mechanisms so I had to add in a couple I used myself but inventively I found a great website (linked in sources)

What I liked : I liked writing about the good side of social media as well as the bad, as I feel like the angle is portrayed that social media is all bad and it's truly not.

Why I chose to this: I think Mental health is important to talk about and i really wanted to do a project talking about this

What Would I Change about it if I had to do it again :

I think I'd add more I know there's a lot but I feel like if I had more time I'd add more

Reflection

refection

My Opinion on the cba: Well this was my first time using prezi and I had to figure out how to use it. Overall this project did not feel like work and I really really enjoyed doing it. And learning about mental health. Overall I would say I did good a cba, but I feel like I could of made it better with more time
