Intro to Anatomy and Physiology pt. 2
lesson 1
CellS
- Cells are complex structures, much like a miniature city.
cells
mEMBRANE
- The membrane is like the "wall" around our cells
- The cell's membrane serves as the protective layer.
Mitochondria
- Mitochondria are the "power plants" of our cells
- Mitochondria obtains it's energy from the food we eat.
- The fuel it uses is called glucose, a type of sugar.
lysosomes
- Lysosomes are the "policemen" of the cities that are our cells.
- Lysosomes also break down chemicals inside the cells.
Golgi
- Golgi are the "grocery stores" of our cells.
- These Golgi bodies sends nutrients to parts of the cell.
Endoplasmic reticulum
- The endoplasmic reticulum is like the "delivery" and "garbage trucks" of our cells.
- The ER delivers chemicals throughout the body and disposes of waste.
Centrioles
- Centrioles are the "mothers" of our cells.
- Centrioles make more copies of cells in our bodies.
The Nucleus
- The Nucleus is like the "government" of our cells.
- The nucleus is the largest organelle.
- DNA and RNA are found in the nucleus.
- Inside the nucleus is another ball called the nucleolus.
Dna
- DNA is like a "book" written about your body.
- Genes are like the "words" inside your book.
- Your DNA is special just for you and decides everything about you.
- Almost every cell in the body has DNA.
RNA
- RNA copies some of the DNA's information and delivers it to the ribosomes.
- The ribosomes read the information from the RNA and make the protein needed.
Cell Creation
- All of the cells in your body are copies of your first cell.
- Cell copies start to differentiate to create other types of tissue.
