Welcome

Objectives

1

  • Intoduction to the topic
  • What is renewable energy?
  • which Renewable energies should we use in Pakistan?
  • How do they work?
  • Their Potential in Pakistan

What is renewable energy?

2

Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable resources, which are naturally replenished on a human timescale. Such as, sunlight, wind , waves etc.

Solar Energy

3

  • Concentrating solar power (CSP):
  • It is mainly used in very large power plants and is not suitable for residential applications. The method utilizes mirrors to reflect and focus sunlight on solar receivers, which accumulate and convert solar energy into heat energy and then use it to generate electricity
  • Photovoltaic (PV):
  • when the sun shines on a solar panel, the cells in the solar panel absorbs the photons from the sun rays, creating an electric field across the layers that causes electricity to flow.

Hydropower Energy

4

Hydro power systems generate electricity by capturing the energy of falling water. The kinetic energy of falling water turns a turbine, which converts the kinetic energy of water into mechanical energy. A generator then converts the turbine's mechanical energy into electric energy

Potential of Solar & Hydropower energy in Pakistan

#1

Potential of solar energy in Pakistan

The lowest solar radiation intensity 76.49 W/m2 observed at Cherat during December and highest 339.25 W/m2 at Gilgit. The average monthly solar radiation intensity remains 136.05 to 287.36 W/m2 in Pakistan.

In an area of 100 m2, 45 MW to 83 MW power can be generated per month.
