Why is Medical Terminology Important for Medical Billing??
Medical Billing
- In practices and hospitals, medical billing and coding play a pivotal role. Accuracy in medical terminology is highly vital to patient safety and productive operations in both of these fields.
- Medical terminology also provides insurance companies with accurate billing.
How Does Medical Terminology Impact Patient Care??
Patient
Care
- Using medical terminology helps patients understand their medical condition and the treatment treatment requirements so that everyone involved has a common understanding without going into great detail.
- The use of medical terminology can have a major impact on ensuring the best and proper care of patients. Incorrect use of can be a matter of life or death for a patient.
Coding Profession
How is Medical Terminology Used in The Coding Profession??
- It's very important for coders to have knowledge in medical terminology therefore they are able to translate patient documentation into the right codes needed.
The proper codes can tell:
- Diagnoses of the patient
- Medical need for care, services, or supplies the patient had needed at the time.
- Any special circumstances or medical conditions impacting treatments or services.
If codes are put in incorrectly it can throw off the whole patient's file and mislead other staff members.
