Individual Factors

Individual

  • The factors that you were born with that make you who you are as a person.
  • The biological aspects of a person.
  • Falls at the center of the model.
  • Factors include
  • Development
  • Culture
  • Intelligence
  • Personality
  • Medical

(Guy-Evans, 2020)

Influence of Development for the Individual

Influence on Development

  • Individual factors include being
  • driven
  • passionate
  • persistent
  • proficient in mathematics
  • athletic
  • fairly good eye sight and health
  • calm temperament

Microsystem

  • The first tier in the model
  • Factors include
  • the immediate relationships
  • the intimate social settings
  • the immediate physical environmental setting
  • Fluctuates depending on the person

Microsystem

(Guy-Evans, 2020)

Influence on Development in the Microsystem

Influence on Development

  • Family - father, mother, and sister
  • Being a daughter I learned how it feels to be loved unconditionally.
  • Being a sister shaped my development at a young age due to the constant need to share, play, and work through problems.
  • School - student, teacher, and coach
  • Social - close friends, cousins, and extended family members

Educational Development

Education

  • Since a young age my parents were always striving for me to chase my dreams. They did not set boundaries for me or confined me to a certain box with expectations.
  • My sister also contributed to my educational development because she would come home from school and teach me what she learned that day. We would typically stick to her math lessons since that is what we both found to be the most interesting.
  • A few of my teachers made a lasting impact on me that I hold close to my heart and hope to do for my students.

Mesosystem

  • Second tier in the model
  • Links the interaction and individual roles between the factors in the Microsystem
  • Forming connections

Mesosystem

(Guy-Evans, 2020)

Influence on Development in the Mesosystem

Influence on Development

  • Attending school allowed me to form connections with other people who I would later became friends with.
  • I played second base and shortstop in softball, which allowed me to form a connection with the infield.

Education

Education

  • Being an educator allows me to form connections with all of my students in diverse ways.
  • Some students I am able to relate to through sports, music, and art.
  • Being a student I was also able to form connections to my teachers and peers across discourses.

Exosystem

  • Third tier in the model
  • Larger community of people and includes
  • neighborhood
  • local laws
  • social services
  • mass media
  • friends
  • Children have no direct influence
  • These are places that the parents of a child have influence over

(Guy-Evans, 2020)

Influence on Development in the Exosystem

Influence on Development

  • My parents best friends had a large influence on my life because they acted as a second set of parents to me.
  • I had a different relationship with my neighborhood friends because they were mostly all males. They aided in my development to mature faster since they were all older than me.
  • Mass media impacted my development because my parents seemed to be more protective of me when certain stories came to light in the news.

Education

Education

  • My education was influenced by my exosystem because
  • my parents have friends who are teachers
  • my neighborhood had teachers in it
  • my school system provided me with ample teachers as role models
  • Being an educator, I would like to think that I influenced students in their exosystem and allowed them to form connections with others outside of their normal bubble.

Macrosystem

  • Fourth tier in the model
  • The macrosystem includes
  • society norms
  • cultural norms
  • public policy
  • This is where family dynamic comes into play and what is perceived as appropriate or inappropriate behavior

(Guy-Evans, 2020)

Influence on Development in the Macrosystem

  • I was raised in a household with two loving parents and a sister.
  • I was not big on fashionable wear. Meaning I do not get hung up on what is "in style" and I am often late to the party.

Influence on Development

Education

  • As an educator, it is essential to do everything in my power to break students away from the social norms and judgement that is passed based on others appearances or cultural beliefs.

Chronosystem

  • The Chronosystem includes
  • events that occur throughout a child's life

Chronosystem

(Guy-Evans, 2020)

Influence on Development in the Chronosystem

Influence on Development

  • Both of my grandpas passing away of cancer during my preteen years.
  • Extended family arguments as a result.
  • Loss of extended family members.
  • Quitting travel softball.
  • Losing friends as a result.
  • Snow Strom Nemo
  • COVID-19

Education

Education

  • My sister and I would play "teacher" when we got home from school and she would teach me what she learned in class that day.
  • This paved the way for me to chase my dream of becoming an educator.
