The SAMR Model is a framework created by Dr. Ruben Puentedura that categorises four different degrees of classroom technology integration.
Technology, when integrated into the curriculum, revolutionises the learning process and improves students' learning outcomes.
What is the SAMR model?
How can I apply it within my classroom to transform my teaching and learning?

After researching the kinds of people on board the First Fleet, students write a historical recount of what the experience was like from one perspective. Students type out their recount using Word, rather than presenting it in it’s handwritten form. The technology leads to no or little change in the teaching and learning.
Students enhance their Word document by embedding content and hyperlinks. At this stage, the learning task is not changed but the features of technology are incorporated.
Students work in small groups so that a variety of researched perspectives are represented. Each group uses Microsoft 365 (or Google classroom) folders where they each post their individual Word documents. Other group members comment, contribute interview questions, via the cloud, to explore the different perspectives presented. The technology is modifying the interactions between user and content, and between users themselves. Communication, collaboration and contribution are emphasised at this level.
Students collaboratively film a news piece, taking on the role of the type of person they have researched.
News presenters pose some of the questions developed via Microsoft 365. The final cut of this news piece is uploaded to a blog/website/ Seesaw and audience members can provide feedback and ask further questions via the comments section. At this stage, students are doing something that is inconceivable without the technology. They have taken their learning beyond the walls of the classroom and are seeking feedback from an audience beyond their classroom.

In 2019 Kings Langley PS was involved in a project with 5 other schools from our area. The project was launched at the Powerhouse Museum , Ultimo. Teams of students had to problem solve how they could live on Mars.
Microsoft Teams
It was a year long project where students were in teams made up of members from all 6 different schools. The use of Microsoft Teams allowed all participants to talk, upload files and start finding solutions online in the time between actual face to face meetings.
After viewing the Mars Rover at The Powerhouse Museum and investigating life on Mars students created their own models to test transportation on Mars.
Minecraft was used to simulate life on Mars.
The final presentation at West HQ
to a large audience of parents , DoE staff and Powerhouse Museum staff.

2020 was a year of redefinition for us as teachers and our students.
We all learned so much in such a short time. Are we (teachers and students) still using all these skills?
We all need to keep using these new skills we learnt.
