ELL is an acronym for English Language Learner. This means that English is not their native language.

Limited Bilingual - A student that is fluent in their primary language; they may be fluent in English and includes cultural knowledge, but academic skills in both languages have not been established.
Coordinate Bilingual - A student that maybe is older when they learn a second language at school while predominately speak in their native language at home.
Balanced Bilingualism - Is when a student is proficient in both native language and foreign language and equally fluent in both.

• Is fluent and can perform well academically in one language; has had limited exposure to English, including limited cultural knowledge.

As a teacher, knowing and understanding the types of bilingual students will help me become a proficient teacher. I will know what resources to use and how to develop lesson plans according to the type of bilingual student. Understanding the definitions will also help me developing a curriculum that is challenging for both types of language learners.
Yes, I agree with this concept. The reason why is because, we all learn at different rates. In order for a student to be successful, they must understand how to read, write and understand the language.
The transfer of language can be useful tool for learners of a second language. Within each language, a student learning how to transfer their native language can be difficult. There are many things that can alter the transfer of language, they include age, location and difficulty in learning.
Students can learn new words from frequent conversations and communications. When students learn two languages at an early age word learning opportunities are distributed from their first and second languages withing context in which words are learned. Words can be learned at home and school through communication. It is important to identify which skills help transfer so that language can be learned.
Learning the principles of language transfer will help me in creating a lesson plan that is effective. When working with ELL students, I must be patient and understand that sentence and word structure is different between languages. These guides will also help me understand what is needed in order for me to help them perfect their skills of learning. It will also help me understand what it is like for a younger student in a new learning situation.
Yes, I agree with this concept. When I think back when I was younger, it was hard for me to learn the basic concepts of language. So being able to teach someone language transfer, it is helpful to understand the whole concept.
It is important that there are programs that will help students learn a second language in a foreign country. These programs make it convenient for learners to be successful in their new environment. It is also important to have knowledge how the culture works.
Dual language is when a student is fluent in two languages (reading, writing and speaking). Dual language programs are for non-English speaking students, this program helps them to use both languages efficiently. It is an education program in which students are taught literacy in their native and secondary language. This program can be taught in one of four methods; these methods include heritage language, one way immersion, two way immersion and maintenance programs.
Processes for dual-language programs will help me understand how to become an effective teacher. This program will help me understand what the student is struggling with and how to help them. It is like what I have learned from my course that will help me be a proficient teacher, so learning this will help me to help my students on how to be fluent. It will also help me with the communication gap.
Yes, and no. I say yes because it will help me to help them be more effective. And I say no because even though I can speak some Spanish, I feel as if I would struggle to be 100% effective.
