PRE-SPANISH PERIOD
- The only motivations for physical activities were for survival in connection with their quest for food and protection against the hostile environment where they must leap, run, walk, jump and climb trees.
Hunting with the use of bows and arrows.
They dance as a form of a religion to please their gods, to cure their sick and for miracles to happen.
Their physical activities are producing food through planting.
They use their tools also for protection from hostile environment
Lanceros
A tradational dance from our *Bailes de Salon* or Ballroom Dance.
Mazurka
Mazurka, Polish mazurek, Polish folk dance for a circle of couples, characterized by stamping feet and clicking heels and traditionally danced to the music of a village band. The music is in 3/4 or 3/8 time with a forceful accent on the second beat. The dance, highly improvisatory, has no set figures, and more than 50 different steps exist. The music written for the dance is also called mazurka.
Polka
Polka is defined as a vivacious couple dance of Bohemian origin in duple time; has a basic pattern of hop-step-close-step; a lively Bohemian dance tune in 2/4 time.
Santacruzan
Santacruzan is a religious-historical beauty pageant held in many cities, towns and even small villages throughout the Philippines during the month of May. This custom and celebration started after the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception in 1854 and after the publication circa 1867 of Mariano Sevilla’s translation of the devotional Flores de Maria or Flowers of Mary.
