  • The piece expresses beauty, serenity, and harmony.
  • Represents the importance of education which was on the rise during this time period.
  • Specific focus on Philosophy. Communicates "desire to know."
  • Shows Aristotle and Plato in the middle arguing over the "really-real." Looking closely, one can notice the Plato is pointing up, symbolsing his belief in the higher forms. Aristotle is gesturing down because he believed true relaity had to be found and explored through one's experiences and how they connect to the higher forms.
  • Promotes education and inspires audience.

  • The corpse was robber who was excuted and Dr. Tulp held an anatomy lesson
  • Dr. Tulp holds his left hand in such a way that shows he is teahcing rather than simply performing the dissection.
  • There is a distinciton made betweene Tulp and everyone else by him wearing a hat.
