WHAT

my research is about a problem that may a lot of international student suffer from, which is culture shock. is not easy to move to a new culture becouse it can be very difficult and stressful. . I focus in my research on the difficulty of culture shock according to the international students. My point from this project is to influence people to participate minimizing this problem

why

A lot of students decide to study outside their country, because they believe the study is butter. It’s a fact that the education in some countries is butter than other, but what the student does not know that they have to deal with a totally different environment and culture. Not only the environment but also the way of dealing with problems and adaption. This could be a very challenging and hard in the same time for a student. me as one of the international students, i think this topic is related to me and i want to discover more. and also FIU as an international university this problem is very common.

what is the main factor of culture shock ?

what is the stages of culture shock ?

how to overcome culture shock ?

is culture shock good or bad experince?

self-efficiency

Stefanie, T.H. (2005). International students: Culture shock and adaptation to the U.S culture.

It is an article that talks about how self-efficiency affects the people that is dealing with culture shock. She said in her article that the issue that students are facing is their self-efficiency. Basically, that is thing they find hard which is adjusting in another culture, as its results culture shock. In my view, adapting a new culture requires a lot of challenging. It requires a person to be more alert with everything they face in this journey as one mistake can develop other following mistakes. Being aware of all the obstacles would clearly make adaption simpler.

self-esteem

Maureen, M. (2018). Adaptation and Acculturation.

While this author mentions that culture shock, only comes from a person’s ability to adjust in new environments and how much that one person can accelerate. The opposing opinions between the two writers, made me want to explore about this issue more, where I find myself extremely interested because while I went through culture shock, I’ve believed that my self-esteem was a huge factor in my ability to adapt. Having a high level of confidence would make it much easier to adopt and overcome the obstacles a student might face. This confidence comes with collaborating more with other international or local student and building a more sort of independent personality with a high confidence.

Kingsbury Cheryl, (2014), cultural adjustment and immersion

This research paper was written to a bigger audience, I think to anyone whose interested in the topic, the author mentions how to fight culture shock, and fight the obstacles that come within, as she also mentions the different stages an individual goes through while dealing with culture shock, and how you can adjust to this phase by developing hobbies and so on. I found this research paper very helpful as I learned more about the stages of cultural transition, I think I can use this research as an introduction to my topic, as it also explains what cultural shock is and its stages and how a person can get through this phase with building different hobbies and habits.

Paige, R. Michael, ed., Education for the Intercultural Experience, Second Edition. Yarmouth, ME. Intercultural Press, 1993.

I found this article in a press release called education for intercultural experience, where the author talks about how international students experience difficulties when they first move into a new environment and that culture shock starts developing on the first few day of the movement she talks and explains what are the possible causes to culture shock as she mentions self esteem and effectiveness. I find this article helpful because not only it supports my point of view but also explains what it is in a deeper way. While she also directly speaking to international students about it and how they can turn this into a good experience.

Przlecki, Pawel,. Adaption challenges and culture shock experienced in a foreign country, centre of migration research, University of Warsa, 2018.

this article found in fiu database talking about a culture shock experinced by students studynig in poland. And how they can overcome the culture shock or the adaption challenges. So, the adaption will be very difficult with the lack of knowledge about social institution that can help to overcome this problem. Also, the lack of language can affect the culture shock and make it more difficult.

This article provide some solution that may help to decrease the problem of culture shock. One of the solution is the programs that can be found on college campuses to assist student to adopt to the new life and new culture. Also, on many campuses there are workshops throughout the semester that are designed to help the new student to adopt and adjust to the classrooms environments and college life

university life

University life can be very difficult for some students. Being away from their homes and families, the stress of studies and the new routine. All this can end with depression ,stress and health problem, but international students suffer more due to language, culture shock and new life. Students should be offered more opportunities for recreational and rest time – such as weekly movie shows, event celebrations, excursion tours, and musical concerts ,Physical activities, and sports, all these can help students overcome the culture shock
