Coastal Erosion Project

What's Happening?

Day by day,—hour by hour—more and more of land towards the coast of Louisiana....

Is disappearing!!

Info. 1

Around 2,000 square miles of Louisiana's coastal land, has turned into "open water", in just "80 years!"

This disappearing of land, is "posing a lethal threat to an energy and shipping corridor", that is "super" important to the nations economy.

It's also causing more and more places to be wiped off the maps!

Info. 2

Will it get worse?

If no action is done to help stop this erosion, then around 2,250 square miles of land to the south of Louisiana will be lost, in 50 years!

What will happen?

More and more of southeast Louisiana is turning–eroding–into water every hour.

My Opinion

I think that the U.S. Government should set up "Protecting Agencies", that will bring people together to help restore the wetlands.

What Should be Done

What can you do?

Common people in the United States–like me and you–can do a lot to help the wetlands.

  • We can start be creating posters and fliers, and hanging them up around neighborhoods. This will help to gather enough support for the wetlands.
  • If you live fairly close to the coast, and near the wetlands, try getting carpenters and others, to help raise your house up higher. This will help to prevent any water from seeping in through holes.
  • Finally, be prepared! This eroding away of the wetlands can cause more and more water to come in, and created massive floods that can wipe out entire cities. Have emergency phone numbers, canned foods, flashlights, and first aid kits, to be prepared for any flash floods or surprise storms.
