Motives
- John wants to free his wife and friends from being accused of witchcraft. Because he knows that Abigail started the trails to get to him and blames himself for it.
- He wants to feel good about his name again. because he had an affair with Abigail and wont forgive himself about it. The moment he does, he decides that he wont confess and will hang with the little good he has.
Relations
- Parris- John Proctor and Parris have been "at arms" with one another for various reasons like John's lack of commitment to the church and John dislikes the way Parris leads the sermon.
- Hale- John Proctor and Hale have a respectable relationship. They don't exactly know one another but Hale attempts to help Proctor with Elizebeths trial. They also have similar views of the trials.
- Mary- Mary is a servant to Proctor. They have a somewhat mutual trust in one another until Mary back stabs Proctor and helps Abby.
- Abigail- Proctor and Abigail have an awkward relationship due to the fact that they had an affair. John wants nothing to do with Abby and she believes that if she gets rid of Elizabeth, he will.

Motives
- By calling upon Reverend Hale, Parris hopes to free Salem of witchcraft and help maintain a good reputation among the townsfolk
- Parris convinces Judge Danforth to let Elizabeth Speak to Proctor, to try to get him to confess. He thinks that if someone with as much respect in the town confesses the others will too
- Proctor- John Proctor and Parris have been "at arms" with one another for various reasons like John's lack of commitment to the church and John dislikes the way Parris leads the sermon.
- Hale- Parris and hale have opposing views but, still maintain a good relationship. Parris looks up to hale in a way, because he has cured "witches" in the past and he hopes that hale can save his reputation.
- Mary- Mary and Parris don't have much of a relationship beside the fact that they both share a similar side to the witchcraft trials in supporting Abby.
- Abigail- Parris is Abigails uncle and she lives with him. Parris is questionable to Abigail to start but as the story progresses he is a firm believer that she is telling the truth about who she saw with the devil.

Motives
- Hale comes to Salem in the first place not to persecute witches but save them in the name of God.
- Hale quits the court because he no longer believes Abigail's story and thinks that the whole thing got stretched way to far and is sending the town into chaos.
Parris- Hale and Parris don't share the same view of the court
case, however they maintain a mutual relationship and Parris somewhat views Hale as his "savior" because he came to heal the witches and help Parris's reputation.
Proctor- John Proctor and Hale have a respectable relationship. They don't exactly know one another but Hale attempts to help Proctor with Elizebeth's trial. They also have similar views of the trials. in that, they both oppose it thinking that the accused aren't really guilty

Mary- Mary and Hale don't have much of a relationship in the story. However, they are somewhat antagonists to one another with their views of the trial.
Abigail- Hale came to help Abby and the girls of Salem but as the story progresses he has less and less faith in her story and starts to lean against her claims.

- Mary is on both sides of the trial against John Proctor. She works for John but is manipulated by Abby. In the end, she told the court that john was with Satan and he tried to overthrow the court because she was too scared of Abby
- Parris- Mary and Parris don't have much of a relationship beside the fact that they both share a similar side to the witchcraft trials in supporting Abby.

- Abigail starts the witch hunt to get out of trouble. because she drank blood in the forest.
- She Puts a needle in a poppet that Mary gave to Elizabeth Proctor and then put a needle in herself so she could accuse Mrs. Proctor.
- Runs away with Mercy Lewis on a ship to Barbados to avoid being hated in the town after everyone was hung.
- Uses fear to get the girls of Salem to stick to her stories and follow her in the courtroom to make herself more believable.
