When did it start?

When did it end?

The Ordovician Period lasted almost 45 million years, beginning 488.3 million years ago and ending 443.7 million years ago. During this period, the area north of the tropics was almost entirely ocean, and most of the world's land was collected into the southern super-continent Gondwana.

What era is it a part of?

When did it end?

The end of the Ordovician period extinction was caused by two ways: the first wave of extinction may be related to rapid cooling at the end of the Ordovician Period, and the second phase is widely regarded as having been caused by the sea-level fall associated with the glaciation.

What era is it a part of?

The Ordovician Period, in geologic time, was the second of six periods of the Paleozoic Era.

What was the climate like?

What makes your period time unique?

From the Lower to Middle Ordovician, the Earth experienced a milder climate. The weather was warm and the atmosphere contained a lot of moisture. However, when Gondwana finally settled on the South Pole during the Upper Ordovician, massive glaciers formed, causing shallow seas to drain and sea levels to drop.

What animals or life forms lived during this time?

What animals or life forms lived during this time?

Blastoids, bryozoans, corals, crinoids, as well as many kinds of brachiopods, snails, clams, and cephalopods appeared during the Ordivician period. Red and green algae also appeared during that time

What makes your period time unique?

One thing that makes the Ordovician period unique is that all the organisms live under water. If you visit the lower to middle Ordovician, the Earth experienced a milder climate. The weather was warm and the atmosphere contained a lot of moisture.

What major events in geologic history occurred during this time?

Picture (what did the earth or continents look like?)

During the Ordovician, most of the world's land in southern Europe, Africa, South America, Antarctica, and Australia was collected together in the super-continent Gondwana. Throughout the Ordovician, Gondwana moved towards the South Pole where it finally came to rest by the end of the period. Also at this time, western and central Europe were separated and located in the southern tropics. Europe shifted towards North America from higher to lower latitudes. During the Upper Ordovician, a major glaciation centered in Africa occurred resulting in a severe drop in sea level which drained nearly all craton platforms.

Is the visitor likely to eat or be eaten?

What plant life lived during this time ?

You can eat some of the animals like clams or snails. You are least likely to be eaten because since life there lives under water, it won’t get out and attack you unless you go near it.

What plant life lived during this time ?

The Ordovician period had red and green algae.

What organisms disappeared during this time?

What organisms first appeared during this time?

Blastoids, bryozoans, corals, crinoids, as well as many kinds of brachiopods, snails, clams, and cephalopods appeared for the first time in the geologic record in tropical Ordovician environments.

Extinct animals

What organisms disappeared during this time?

85% of all species on Earth went extinct in the Ordovician-Silurian extinction. The extinction was most likely a result of global cooling and reduced sea levels, which dramatically impacted the many marine species living in warm, shallow coastal waters. Widespread families of trilobites disappeared and graptolites came close to total extinction.
