Competition
(Peak / Playing Season)
Purpose
- Performers should be at peak level
- Maintain Fitness
- Specific skills used in their sport
- Avoid over training causing fatigue to decrease performance or cause injury.
Post-Season
(Closed season / Transition)
Purpose
- Improve Aerobic Fitness: Continuous, Internal, Fartlek Training
- Improve Strength & Muscular Endurance: Weight Training
- Training essential components of fitness for activity
- Practising the skills and techniques needed for competition
Purpose
- Rest and Recovery: Mentally and physically
- Light aerobic training to maintain general fitness
